Job Title: Material HandlerJob DescriptionThe Material Handler operates forklifts and overhead cranes to safely move, package, and ship materials in a clean and organized industrial facility. This role performs pre-use equipment inspections, prepares orders for shipment, manages shipping paperwork using an internal system, and supports daily operations through cross-training in saw cutting, shipping, and receiving. Safety is a core focus, and the position offers the opportunity to learn all aspects of the shop and build a long-term career in the industry.Work EnvironmentThe role is performed in a very clean and organized 22,000 square foot industrial facility, with work taking place both indoors and outdoors. Approximately 70% of the time is spent operating equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, and saws, and about 30% is spent loading trucks and performing related tasks. The forklift is relatively new (around 2 years old), the overhead cranes are well-maintained (around 10 years old), and the saws are established equipment (20+ years old). The typical schedule is an AM shift from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break. You will work closely with a small team of about five people in total, contributing to a collaborative and supportive environment. Work attire includes supplied coveralls that are laundered regularly, along with provided outdoor gear for rain and winter conditions to ensure comfort and safety in both indoor and outdoor tasks.Responsibilities

• Perform pre-use inspections at the start of each shift to ensure forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment are safe and ready for operation. • Operate counterbalance forklifts and overhead cranes to move materials throughout the facility in a safe and efficient manner. • Package orders by moving material with overhead cranes, banding with steel or plastic binders, and protecting material using wood, plastic, or other appropriate materials. • Prepare and ship orders using the internal shipping system, including loading trucks with overhead cranes and forklifts and accurately managing all related paperwork. • Coordinate with a small team of coworkers (approximately three people) to organize daily workflow and meet shipping and packaging timelines. • Package materials for the following day, ensuring orders are prepared to the same standard as morning operations. • Perform general cleanup of workstations and surrounding areas to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. • Participate in cross-training from the start, learning saw cutting, shipping, and receiving to support multiple areas of the operation. • Follow all safety requirements and guidelines, maintaining a strong safety mindset in every task. • Use RF scanners and tape measures (imperial) to accurately handle, measure, and track materials. • Assist with inventory-related tasks, including material handling and basic inventory management activities as needed. • Support loading and unloading of trucks, ensuring materials are secured and handled properly during transport. • Contribute to a positive team environment by communicating clearly, supporting coworkers, and adapting to changing operational needs. Essential Skills

• 1–2 years of experience operating a SDCB (sit-down counterbalance) forklift in an industrial or material handling environment. • Proven material handling experience in an industrial setting, including moving and organizing heavy materials. • Experience with shipping or packaging work in an industrial environment. • Ability to safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes for material movement and truck loading. • Experience using RF scanners for tracking and managing materials. • Ability to read and use an imperial tape measure accurately for measuring materials. • General labor experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or industrial environment. • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safe work requirements. • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team and communicate clearly with coworkers. • Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, moving, and positioning materials throughout the shift. Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Steel industrial experience is considered an asset. • Experience operating overhead cranes (OHC) is an asset. • Inventory management experience in an industrial or warehouse environment is an asset. • First aid certification is an asset, with additional hourly pay for level one, two, or three certifications. • Bandsaw experience and familiarity with saw cutting operations are considered an asset. • Willingness to cross-train in saw cutting, shipping, and receiving. • Interest in developing a long-term career in industrial operations with opportunities for advancement and transfers to other divisions or locations.
