About this role

Job Title: Material HandlerJob DescriptionThe Material Handler plays a key role in maintaining accurate inventory levels, moving materials safely and efficiently, and supporting production and shipping operations. This position involves operating forklifts, using inventory systems, packaging and preparing materials for shipment, and working closely with internal customers to ensure materials are available where and when they are needed. Responsibilities • Maintain inventory levels by accurately identifying, labeling, stocking, and recording materials and supplies. • Transport heavy materials using sit-down and stand-up forklifts both inside and outside of buildings in a safe and efficient manner. • Determine production requirements by obtaining and reviewing work orders. • Verify items and quantities on packing slips and process receiving or shipping activities as necessary. • Package materials and parts in appropriate containers to ensure safe shipment to internal and external customers. • Communicate effectively with internal customers and respond promptly to material requests. • Develop bills of lading and delivery forms to support outbound shipments. • Locate materials and supplies by pulling and verifying items listed on production orders. • Perform cycle counts of inventory as requested to help maintain accurate stock records. • Learn and utilize the current inventory computer system to track and manage materials. • Sort items according to destination and verify all items match the associated purchase orders. • Operate all required forklifts, including sit-down and stand-up models, in accordance with safety and training standards. • Work overtime and, when needed, up to 7 days a week to meet production and shipping demands. • Perform all other duties and tasks assigned to support material handling, production, and warehouse operations. Essential Skills • At least 6+ months of forklift experience, including safe operation of sit-down and stand-up forklifts. • At least 6+ months of experience in a manufacturing environment. • Proven material handling experience in a production or warehouse setting. • Ability to use RF scanners for picking, packing, and inventory tasks. • Basic computer knowledge and ability to learn and use inventory software systems. • Ability to successfully complete forklift training. • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid forklift license. • Ability to acquire and understand lean manufacturing concepts. • Capability to work overtime and extended schedules, including up to 7 days per week when required. • Strong attention to detail for verifying items, quantities, and purchase order information. • Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining accuracy and productivity. • Effective communication skills for working with internal customers and team members. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with picking and packing processes in a warehouse or production environment. • General labor and production experience handling parts and materials. • Comfort working both independently and collaboratively within a team. • Familiarity with inventory cycle counting and stock verification. • Understanding of basic shipping documentation, including bills of lading and delivery forms. • Willingness to learn and adapt to lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement initiatives. Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a manufacturing and warehouse setting with a current workforce of around 20 employees. The environment involves working with parts and lifts every day, and tasks can be repetitive, requiring focus and consistency. Employees are expected to work both independently and with others, contributing to a culture that values individual responsibility and teamwork. The dress code includes jeans, steel-toe footwear, and a clean work shirt to support safety and professionalism. Available shifts include 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 3rd shift from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. A shift differential is provided for 2nd and 3rd shift employees, and work may include overtime and Sunday work, which is compensated at double time. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chambersburg, PA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.40/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
