We are seeking a motivated and high-performing Medical Secretary to join Collingwood Family Practice on a part-time basis for 28 hours per week. This offers the opportunity to provide a high-quality referral and administrative service, supporting GPs and wider clinical teams to deliver timely, patient-centred care across Primary Care and secondary care pathways.

Main duties of the job

This role is a varied, hands-on referral administration position requiring excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise work effectively. You will manage and process referrals in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy and adherence to practice and NHS protocols, while responding to varying levels of urgency across the Division.

Working collaboratively with local divisions, Divisional Boards, and the National Modality Business Support Team, you will contribute to efficient service delivery and support innovative approaches to referral management. This role requires flexibility, initiative, and adaptability are essential. You will be expected to work resourcefully within the team to ensure tasks are completed to a high standard while meeting time-limited deadlines.

Person Specification

Skills Essential

Highly accurate typing with advanced word-processing capability. Strong diary management skills with the ability to organise and balance workloads. Excellent prioritisation skills, ensuring deadlines are met in fast-paced environments.

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge of GP practice protocols and procedures. Competent in MS Word, Outlook, Excel and related software. Understanding of medical terminology and referral pathways.

Experience Essential

Experience working in a high-volume administrative or medical secretarial role. Experience using NHS systems.

Personal Qualities Essential

Professional and reliable approach to work. Excellent telephone manner. Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
