Main duties of the job
If you do not hold the relevant qualification for the post (i.e. PGCert in an IAPT approved course for low intensity psychological interventions) applications will not be accepted.
Touchstone is a partner within Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service. The service offers a range of evidence-based psychological interventions both at step 2 and step 3 as proposed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance.
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the team for one permanent and full-time Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to join and contribute to the innovation and success of our well-established talking therapies service.

Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical
1.1.Demonstrates a detailed theoretical and practical knowledge of common aetiologies, pathologies, conditions and presentations involving a critical understanding of theories and principles
1.2.Demonstrates innovative and specialist skills to select methods and tools to holistically assess, plan, implement and evaluate in a complex and specialised field of work.
1.3.Demonstrates highly developed physical skills where dexterity and accuracy are important e.g. syringe pumps and infusions, manual treatments
1.4.Makes consistent judgements requiring complex fact analysis, interpretation and comparison of options and ensures clinical reasoning is reflected accurately in case records
1.5.Engages and actively involves the individual and, if appropriate, their family/carer, in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of treatment and/or care by using person-centred techniques to promote a culture of involvement and empowerment
1.6.Works to standards of proficiency identified by their professional and regulatory bodies performing clinical treatments/procedures to a competent standard
1.7.Prioritises their own workload, and that of the wider team, within agreed objectives deciding when to refer to others as appropriate.
1.8.Provides and receives complex, sensitive or contentious information where motivational, persuasive, empathetic, negotiating and reassurance skills are required whilst demonstrating an understanding of barriers to communication
1.9.Approaches each individual with care, compassion and sensitivity ensuring that these values are reflected in all areas of practice including the management of any complaints and compliments.
1.10.To comply with the organisations Infection Prevention and Control requirements, including bare below the elbows dress code for staff with a direct care delivery role
2. Leadership

3. Learning and Development
3.1.Undertakes any training required to develop and maintain their proficiency in response to changes in service delivery or new and emerging techniques and demonstrate competence within professional body requirements

3.4.Undertakes supervision and is responsible for teaching and training both inside and outside work area.
3.5.Ensures appraisals for direct reportees are undertaken in accordance with Trust policy; manages performance which falls below standard in accordance with the appropriate HR policies and processes seeking support from senior staff where required.
3.6.Supports the learning and development of others including students and preceptees
3.7.To be inducted, supervised, performance managed and appraised in line with the organisations performance management policies and procedures.
3.8.To be responsible for personal learning and development where appropriate and undertake training, both mandatory and optional, to increase knowledge, skills and awareness.

5. Innovation and Quality
5.1.Implements, monitors and maintains agreed standards of care, reporting to the team/service manager when standards are not met

5.3.Identifies areas for improvement within own service and proactively addresses these within the overall organisational governance frameworks and corporate objectives reflecting the changing needs of the population, local and national initiatives

5.5.Contributes to and undertakes clinical audit
5.6.Works with managers and colleagues to identify, manage and minimise risks within the overall organisational risk management frameworks. This includes understanding and applying knowledge of clinical role in safeguarding and actively leading incident management processes
5.7.Acts as an advocate for patients and their families/carers recognising the boundaries of their clinical knowledge; liaising and referring on to other services / agencies as required
5.8.Ensures that patient experience is core to all clinical and service development gaining support from the appropriate corporate teams as required
5.9.Actively ensures completion of required data in a timely manner in order to meet the Quality Framework requirements, outcome measures and best practice standards in order to deliver an effective, high quality service
6. General
6.1.To provide information and advice about Touchstones services to managers, teams, and other people/agencies with an interest in the organisation's work.
6.2.To undertake out of hours work as required by the service.
6.3.To be aware of and implement the general practices of Touchstones Health, Safety and Security policies and keep Managers informed about any serious and untoward incidents, safeguarding issues, health & safety concerns, financial issues, staff welfare.
6.4.To operate within the aims, policies and practices of Touchstone at all times and to be committed to and promote the organisations equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory policies.
6.5.To ensure information is dealt with in accordance with Touchstones policies around Confidentiality, Communications, Internet, Email and Telecommunications and steps are taken to ensure that confidential information is secure e.g. service user data.
6.6.To be a service information asset administrator ensuring information is dealt with in accordance with information governance, data protection and GDPR eg including carrying out data protection impact assessments, data flow, service records of process activity. Person Specification
Knowledge Essential
Demonstrate the ability to recognise the signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression and how these conditions may present themselves in Primary Care. Demonstrates knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health. Knowledge and ability to deliver High Volume Low Intensity evidenced based interventions in groups or to individuals referred to the service in line with IAPT prescribed protocols . Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post. Knowledge of medication used for anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems. Demonstrates a sound knowledge of IAPT services/outcome measures and the stepped care model.
Skills Essential
Ability to evaluate and put in place the effect of training. Good level of ICT skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients. Experience of carrying out risk assessments within scope of practice. Ability to manage own caseload and excellent time management skills. Effective decision making skills.

Qualifications Essential
Post Graduate Certificate in evidence based psychological treatments (IAPT Pathways) or equivalent. Supervision training in IAPT (LI) pathways from an accredited university OR nearing completion of this supervision training.
Experience Essential
Minimum 1 year of post PWP qualification experience within an IAPT service. Evidence working with people who have experienced a mental health problem with positive outcomes. Experience working in Primary Care Services. Experience working in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes. Evidence of supporting service development role and the ability to co-ordinate service delivery. Evidence of delivering effective case management and/or clinical supervision.
Desirable
Effective line management to staff and/or trainees, volunteers.
