Red Kite Health Solutions CIC is a not for profit community interest company formed in 2015 to deliver health and wellbeing services to the people of South Powys and surrounding area.

Formed from a collaboration of the four practices in South Powys we provide cost effective, innovative health care solutions driven by outcomes that matter to our patients.

Our surgeries are Brecon Medical Group, Haygarth Medical Centre, Ystradgynlais Group Practice and Crickhowell Group Practice.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our team. The role will cover Brecon Medical Groupand Ystradgynlais Group Practice.

Job Responsiblities:

The purpose of the role is to work with the Practices, GP prescribing leads and pharmacists in ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and efficient systems for repeat prescribing and medicines management.

We currently have four pharmacists and four technicians working together across the four practices. This role will cover both Ystradgynlais Group Practice and Brecon Medical Group.

Job responsibilities:

- To review hospital initiated medication changes in accordance with Practice Protocols and to update Patients medical records / prescribing accordingly.

- To support and coach administrative staff involved in the preparation of repeat prescriptions in order to ensure that Practice Polices and Protocols are adhered to.

- To contribute to the development and implementation of a Medicines Management Policy in order to support the achievement of the Practices prescribing Quality and Financial Targets.

- To contribute to the review and development of Repeat Prescribing Protocols / Standard Operating Procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Repeat Prescribing systems.

- To provide advice to GPs, staff and patients in changes to prescribing in order to support the improvement of prescribing safety, quality and cost effectiveness.

- To make changes to Patients prescribing records in accordance with Practice Protocols in order to support safe and cost effective prescribing.

- To take a proactive approach to the safe handling of prescriptions, including assessment of risk and making recommendations for improvement.

- To contribute to SEAs where medicines management is a central factor

- To respond to medication queries from Patients and Staff in a professional manner, referring to the appropriate GP in accordance with Practice Protocols.

- To advise on the sourcing and safe management of medicines as appropriate.

- To assist in the control of medicine stocks within the Practice.

- To liaise with other agencies/colleagues/patients with regards to current advice where appropriate

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or Equivalent Medicine Management or dispensing role in the community Registration as Pharmacy Technician with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

Desirable

Accuracy Checking Qualifications Skills in analysing and presenting activity data EMIS Web User CASPA user

Experience Essential

Excellent written and verbal communication skills Knowledge of pharmacy procedures Understanding of medicines legislation and ethics Knowledge of diversity issues and ability to work in non-discriminatory way IT skills including MS Word and Excel

Policy / procedure development General Practice repeat prescribing systems
