We are recruiting one fixed-term Assistant Psychologist posts for 7 months within the Community Psychology Service, funded through the Trailblazer Project in Port Talbot. One post will support young people aged 16-25, and the other two posts will support adults aged 25 and over.
Working under the supervision of the Clinical Lead Psychologist to help develop, deliver and evaluate an innovative early intervention vocational recovery service. The service aims to support individuals in Port Talbot who wish to enter, return to, or engage in employment, training or volunteering, but are experiencing mental health difficulties that act as barriers.
The post supporting 16-25-year-olds will work closely with a newly funded CYP Coordinator post within the Afan Cluster.Assistant Psychologists will contribute to group interventions, workshops, staff training, and low-intensity one-to-one psychological work as part of a team of qualified clinical and counselling psychologists within the Community Psychology Service. They will receive regular clinical supervision to support their practice and development.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will work under close supervision from the Clinical Lead Psychologist within the Community Psychology Service to develop and deliver low-intensity, psychoeducational group interventions and workshops. These will support adults to move closer to employment, volunteering, training, or education, and to overcome mental health barriers that may be preventing engagement in these areas.
Part of the role will also involve low-intensity one-to-one psychological work under supervision, including the development of individual formulations and delivery of tailored interventions to address identified needs.
A significant aspect of the role will focus on service evaluation, measuring effectiveness through qualitative and quantitative outcome measures, patient feedback, and wider service data. The postholder will contribute to reporting findings and making recommendations to support the ongoing development, sustainability, and enhancement of the service.The role will also involve collaboration with a range of professionals within the Trailblazer team, as well as external partners such as Jobcentre Plus and local organisations offering employment, education, and volunteering opportunities. This will support the development of effective pathways and networks to enhance vocational opportunities for residents of Port Talbot.

Qualifications and Knowledge Essential
Minimum of a 2.1 Hons degree in psychology. Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health and /or research
Experience Essential
Previous and relatable assistant psychology post experience or equivalent
