Job summary
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an exceptional senior operational leader to join us as Deputy Director of Elective Care. This is a pivotal Trust-wide role with responsibility for leading elective care improvement workstreams and driving sustained delivery against local, national and contractual performance standards, including Referral to Treatment, Cancer and Diagnostics.
Main duties of the job
The Deputy Director of Elective Care is a pivotal member of the COO leadership team. Working at the heart of a complex and high-profile operational environment, you will build strong collaborative relationships with clinical and divisional teams while maintaining an objective, constructive focus on performance, productivity and pathway improvements. You will act with autonomy in interpreting NHS policy and strategy, shaping goals and standards across the Trust and influencing the elective care agenda across the wider care system.
Key responsibilities of the role are:
Strategic Development Business Planning/Service Development Operational Performance Leadership and Management Corporate Leadership Lead delivery of key elective care improvement programmes across the Trust.

Qualifications Essential
Educated to degree level in relevant field or equivalent level of management experience. MBA or post graduate management qualification
Desirable
Evidence of further professional development activities in the past two years. Masters in a relevant subject (e.g. healthcare, management) or equivalent experience.
Experience Essential
Demonstrable professional higher level management experience across the full range of management functions: Financial management, Performance management, Information management, Workforce management and Strategic management. Substantial recent management experience, at a senior level, in a complex organisation. Experience of analysing, interpreting and reporting on information to identify and manage variances in performance and identifying solutions to identified problem/areas for improvement. Project management experience. Experience of business planning techniques and managing business processes. Extensive leadership and management experience. Track record of leading and managing teams through large-scale change in a complex organisation.
Desirable
Experience of designing/ improving business systems & processes.
Knowledge Essential
General Management theory and practice, including quality, financial management, HR management and service/business development. Good understanding of the NHS and key policy issues that affect business performance. Good understanding of commissioning framework within the NHS. Change management/service improvement techniques.
