About this role

Job summary

SoliHealth is seeking a part-time Medical Director to provide strategic clinical leadership ensuring our services are clinically safe, effective, patient centred and commercially sustainable. As a core member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will oversee clinical governance, champion patient safety, and drive innovation across our expanding service portfolio. This vital role requires a GMC-registered practitioner on the Specialist or GP Register with at least 5 years of post-CCT experience and a proven track record in healthcare transformation. Main duties of the job

As an integral member of the executive leadership team, the Medical Director will provide strategic clinical leadership across SoliHealth, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, patient-centered, and commercially sustainable healthcare services. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the post holder will lead clinical governance, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, service innovation, and medical workforce development.

The Medical Director will act as the organisation's senior clinical advisor, ensuring that all clinical services meet the highest standards of patient care, professional practice, and statutory requirements while supporting the continued growth and development of SoliHealths healthcare portfolio.

SoliHealth is the GP Provider Alliance of all six Primary Care Networks (PCNs) in Solihull. Established in 2018, it delivers clinical services and projects across Solihull and supports the scale-up of working for all GP practices in the locality.

With the emergence of the recent NHS Neighbourhood Plan, which shifts healthcare delivery from hospitals to local communities, SoliHealth is positioning itself as a key stakeholder in emerging neighbourhood healthcare provision within the system.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

Provide visible and inspirational clinical leadership across the organisation.

Develop and implement SoliHealths clinical strategy in alignment with organisational objectives.

Serve as CQC Registered Manager of SoliHealth.

Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Ensure clinical services operate in accordance with national standards, evidence-based practice, and regulatory requirements.

Represent SoliHealth in clinical discussions with commissioners, regulators, healthcare partners, and stakeholders.

Clinical Governance and Quality

Lead the Clinical Governance Framework, ensuring robust oversight of quality and patient safety.

Ensure effective management of:

- Clinical incidents

- Complaints and concerns

- Significant events

- Serious incidents

- Patient safety investigations

Monitor clinical outcomes and quality indicators, driving improvements where required.

Oversee audit programs and ensure implementation of learning and recommendations.

Maintain compliance with CQC requirements and professional regulatory standards.

Medical Workforce Leadership

Provide professional leadership and support to employed, contracted, and sessional clinicians.

Lead medical workforce planning and recruitment.

Support appraisal, revalidation, job planning, and professional development processes.

Promote staff wellbeing, engagement, and retention.

Develop future clinical leaders within the organisation.

Strategic Development and Innovation

Contribute to corporate strategy and organisational development.

Identify opportunities for new service development and clinical innovation.

Support business growth by ensuring clinical credibility and governance of new services.

Evaluate emerging healthcare technologies, digital solutions, and models of care.

Work collaboratively with operational and commercial teams to deliver strategic objectives.

Risk Management and Compliance

Maintain oversight of organisational clinical risk.

Ensure compliance with:

- Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements

- GMC guidance

- Information Governance standards

- Safeguarding legislation

- Health and Safety requirements

Provide expert clinical input into organisational policies and procedures.

Lead organisational responses to external inspections, audits, and quality reviews.

Stakeholder Relationships

Build and maintain strong relationships with:

- NHS organisations

- Integrated Care Boards

- Primary Care Networks

- Independent healthcare providers

- Commissioning bodies

- Professional regulators

Act as an ambassador for SoliHealth within the healthcare community.

Support partnership development and collaborative working arrangements.

Corporate Responsibilities

Person Specification

Knowledge Essential

NHS structures and commissioning arrangements. CQC regulatory framework. Clinical governance and patient safety methodologies. Medical appraisal and revalidation requirements. Healthcare quality improvement methodologies. Information governance and safeguarding requirements.

Skills Essential

Registered healthcare professional (GMC Registration essential). Exceptional leadership and influencing skills. Strategic thinking and organisational development capability. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to balance clinical quality with operational and financial considerations. Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities. Skilled in conflict resolution and relationship management.

Experience Essential

Senior clinical leadership experience within NHS and/or independent healthcare settings. Experience of clinical governance, quality improvement, and risk management. Experience leading multidisciplinary clinical teams. Experience managing organisational change and service transformation. Experience working with regulatory bodies and quality inspections. Demonstrable involvement in strategic planning and service development.

Desirable

Experience working within a growing healthcare organisation. Experience of digital health innovation and technology-enabled care. Experience working across NHS and private healthcare sectors.

Qualifications Essential

Registered Medical Practitioner with current GMC registration and license to practice. Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or GP Register. Minimum 5 years of post CCT clinical experience. Evidence of continued professional development. Formal leadership or management qualification, or equivalent experience.

Desirable

MBA, MSc in Healthcare Leadership, Medical Management, or similar qualification.
