We are delighted to off a brand new role within our Speech and Language Therapy team. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape and develop a unique specialist role, working across the renownedRobert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH), the Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries (MCSI), and community services in Oswestry.

This is a rare opportunity to work at the interface of specialist spinal injuries, dysphagia, communication disorders, voice, neurology and community rehabilitation, providing a diverse and rewarding caseload that supports both professional growth and clinical excellence.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with our Clinical Lead for Spinal Cord Injury Speech and Language Therapist, you will play a key role in delivering specialist assessment, diagnosis and intervention for adults with complex communication, swallowing and voice needs.

Your work will span a variety of clinical environments, including:

Specialist spinal injury services High Dependency Unit (HDU) General medical wards Outpatient voice clinics Neurological / general outpatient clinics Community settings

In addition, you will contribute to our expanding neuromuscular pathway and be actively involved in the ongoing development of a specialist speech and language therapy service within this well-established and nationally recognised MDT.

This role offers excellent opportunities to develop expertise in managing patients with highly complex presentations while working as part of a supportive and innovative multidisciplinary team.

The current suggested work plan includes; 1 session of outpatient voice clinic/week, 1 session of neuro/general outpatient clinic/week, 4 sessions on the wards across the hospital, 2 sessions within the neuromuscular service and 2 sessions of domiciliary community work. Total of 10 sessions per week or 5 days per week.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy Registered with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Evidence of specialist clinical training in relevant areas

Work experience Essential

Evidence of broad range of pre and post qualification experience Evidence of experience in relevant area of clinical practice - dysphagia, video fluoroscopy and tracheostomy Evidence of teaching/student experience Experience in audit and research

Knowledge Essential

Evidence of CPD (portfolio) detailing clinical experience relevant to the post. Knowledge of current NHS strategy and plans Knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance Evidence of Specialist level of clinical reasoning Knowledge of current Evidence Based Practice relevant to post

Skills Essential

Excellent written communication skills. IT skills relevant to the role
