About this role
Under the supervision of the Director of Education, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the Director in ensuring strong operational oversight of the Education Department. Oversees all programming and services for students in grades Kindergarten through Post-Graduate. Partners with other Tribal departments, school districts and other stakeholders to ensure that all MPTN students are being served equitably in their school systems. Meets with Tribal families to support educational needs, including school placement and tutoring support. Collaborates with area schools to support Tribal students achieve the best academic outcomes possible. Supervises the Behavior Interventionist, Special Education Advocate and College Counselor, and collaborates with them on developing and implementing standard operating procedures in their scopes of work. Manages the tutoring program, including the hiring of contractors and regular Team Members, oversight of scheduling and coordination of student applications. Supports the Director with the creation, revision and execution of education policies, as assigned. Supports the Director with the operations of the Department, including budget creation, data gathering and analysis and team development, as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree in an education-related field is required. Leadership experience in an education related role is desired. K-12 teaching experience and certification are desired. Must have a demonstrated love and passion for connecting all age groups and maximizing their learning potential. Must have ability to provide after-hours services, as needed. Must have strong adult coaching skills and the ability to motivate students.
• Must adhere to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe's Policies and Procedures. • Promotes a learning culture, incorporates professional development and reflective practices based upon a professional learning community. • Identifies strengths and weaknesses of current Kindergarten through Postgraduate programming and works to strengthen them. • Works with Director of Education to create project plans for the collection, monitoring, reporting, and use of student, school, and district level data. • Collaborates with other departments to provide high-quality academic and cultural programming for Tribal youth. • Designs and implements a strong academic support program, including oversight of tutors. • Collaborates with the local schools that serve Tribal youth to plan for interventions and systems of support. • Coordinates with the Child Development Center (CDC) to determine Kindergarten Readiness to meet all other benchmarks. • Manages the Behavior Interventionist, Special Education Advocate and College Counselor. • Plans and coordinates several distance learning opportunities for middle and high school students. • Supports the Director with the creation, revision and execution of education policies, as assigned. • Supports the Director with the operations of the Department, including budget creation, data gathering and analysis and team development, as assigned. • Performs all other related and compatible duties as assigned.
