Cagetender

Alamos Gold's Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada's largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos' foundation for growth for many years to come. Are you passionate about underground mining and safe, efficient mine operations? Do you thrive in a high-performance, safety-focused environment? If you are an experienced Cagetender with strong planning, problem-solving, and operational skills, we want you on our team!
Role Overview
As the Cagetender, reporting to the Mine Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the mine conveyance. You will play an important role in transporting workers, materials, and explosives underground while supporting routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs to help reduce downtime and keep operations moving safely.
Key Responsibilities
• Cage Operation: Safely operate the cage to convey workers, materials, and explosives underground.
• Maintenance Support: Assist with routine maintenance of the cage and conveyance system.
• Shaft Inspections: Perform mine shaft inspections as required.
• Repairs: Undertake repairs as needed, including timber and rock repairs.
• Planning and Coordination: Use strong planning skills to minimize lost time when transporting workers and materials.
What You Bring to the Table
• 3–5 years of underground experience as a cagetender or deckman.
• Accreditation in underground common core modules is required.
• Accreditation in specialty modules would be considered an asset.
• Strong safety focus with the ability to work independently.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Well-developed planning skills to support safe and efficient conveyance operations.

Working Conditions
• 12-hour shifts following a 7 on, 7 off rotation, days and nights.
• Underground mine environment at the Young-Davidson Mine near Matachewan, Ontario.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to work in an underground mining environment and perform duties related to cage operation, shaft inspections, maintenance support, and timber or rock repairs as required.
Travel & Accommodation
• Travel Allowance of up to $25.00 CAD per day

Pay/Shift Range: $ 40.23 CAD - $46.20 CAD
The expected salary range for this role is intended to support transparency and informed decision making. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience and internal equity.
