The Butchery Manager is responsible for the leadership and supervision of the Butchery department within a PnP Corporate store. This function includes the planning, organizing, directing, motivating, controlling and providing practical operational support in the running of the Butchery in order to achieve the Butchery Division and the Pick n Pay’s objectives.
Minimum requirements Grade 12 / Matric / NQF 4 3 years Butchery experience with at least 1 year in supervisory role
Competencies Skilled in cutting, manufacturing, and merchandising butchery products. Proficient in operating butchery equipment and applying safe work procedures. Strong customer service orientation with a passion for Fresh products. Ability to adapt quickly to new information, trends, and technologies. High energy levels, resilience, and a growth mindset. Good communication skills.
Key responsibilities Customer-Centric Leadership Deliver exceptional service by engaging customers with product knowledge and personalised recommendations. Champion a culture of hospitality and Fresh-first thinking in every interaction.
Operational Excellence Ensure efficient cutting, packing, and merchandising of products with minimal waste. Maintain strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and health standards. Optimise stock rotation, ordering, and gross profit management.
Innovation & Fresh Strategy Alignment Introduce new product ranges and value-added offerings that reflect customer trends (e.g., plant-forward options, convenience packs). Drive sustainability initiatives such as reducing food waste and supporting ethical sourcing. Leverage technology and data insights to improve efficiency and customer engagement.
Team Development Lead, coach, and inspire the butchery team to embrace continuous learning and innovation. Build a high-performance culture that values accountability, collaboration, and adaptability. Provide regular feedback and foster career growth opportunities.
Sales & Profitability Implement cutting plans and block test margins to maximize profitability. Monitor sales trends and adjust strategies to meet and exceed budget targets. Drive promotional activities that highlight Fresh products and seasonal offering
