About the Role Due to continued growth, Babcock is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to provide strategic commercial leadership across the business. Reporting to the Commercial Director, this pivotal leadership role can be based anywhere in Australia and will work closely with Delivery Units and Functional leaders to drive business performance, manage commercial risk, and support sustainable growth across critical programs. As a trusted business partner, you will provide direction and oversight across the full commercial lifecycle, from opportunity identification and bid pursuit through to contract execution, delivery, and close-out. You will play a key role in shaping commercial strategy, enabling profitable growth, protecting Babcock's commercial interests, and ensuring sound governance and risk management practices are embedded across the business. Working across a diverse portfolio of customer contracts and strategic programs, you will lead complex negotiations, provide expert guidance on contractual and commercial matters, and support the resolution of significant contract, performance, and customer issues. You will develop strong relationships with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders while ensuring commercial risks and opportunities are effectively identified, assessed, and managed. A key focus of the role will be supporting business growth through major pursuits and bid activities. You will provide strategic oversight of commercial solutions, pricing approaches, governance requirements, negotiation strategies, and risk assessments, ensuring informed decision-making and successful business outcomes. You will foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement, while developing capability and supporting future talent growth. You will also champion commercial best practice across the organisation, driving improvements to processes, systems, and ways of working to enhance performance and deliver long-term value. To be successful, you will bring: Demonstrated experience in commercial, contracts, or related leadership roles within complex Defence, Government, engineering, infrastructure, or project-based environments. Degree in Business, Commerce, Law, Economics, or a related discipline (or equivalent demonstrated experience). Significant experience leading commercial teams and developing commercial capability. Extensive experience in contract negotiation, contract management, and customer relationship management. Experience leading commercial aspects of major bids, opportunities, and strategic pursuits. Experience managing complex commercial risks, claims, disputes, and contractual issues. Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and support strategic business decision making.
