MEA- EXTRA-CURRICULAR - INTERNAL Summary: The job of the Athletic Director is done for the purpose/s of planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of the District's athletics programs, providing information and serving as a resource to others; and achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Coordinate all athletic schedules with the principal. 2. Assign and supervise all gatekeepers and workers for all athletic contests. 3. Examine all playing arenas to see if they are available and ready for play. 4. Obtain a playing arena when there is a need for practice or to use as a game site. 5. Confirm the availability of sports equipment that is needed for the game. 6. Arrange for payment of all game officials. 7. Arrange for all the change that is needed for all gatekeepers. 8. Make available change boxes, tickets, stamps, etc. which are needed by gatekeepers. 9. Coordinate all tournaments and postseason games with the principal. 10. Coordinate with the principal the welfare of all athletes. 11. Verify the eligibility of all athletes. 12. Suggest the monetary allowance for athletes and coaches when playing a contest that requires overnight lodging and food. 13. Work with coaches and the principal to ensure the eligibility of each athlete is certified before participation. 14. Work with the principal and District personnel in securing law enforcement officers to provide security for athletic contests. 15. Coordinate all athletic functions such as booster club meetings, athletic banquets, and other athletic meetings. 16. Coordinate the attendance of coaches at coaches' clinics and workshops. 17. Serve as public relations liaison for all routine news media requests related to athletics. 18. Coordinate with the principal any postponement of contests because of weather or other factors. 19. Work with coaches in solving morale problems. 20. Serve as a booster of the school's athletic program. 21. Offer constructive criticism to fellow coaches. 22. Coordinate the purchase, reconditioning, and storage of athletic equipment. 23. Coordinate the preparation for all home contests and events; supervise or direct cleanup after contests. 24. Coordinate transportation for all athletic events requiring travel using procedures established by the MSD Transportation Dept. 25. Develop and submit the athletic budget to the principal by March 1st for the following school year. 26. Serve as director of special events and promotions for the athletic department. 27. Schedule and conduct pre-season meetings for all sports. 28. Submit athletic eligibility summary and pre-season meeting certification as required at the beginning of the season. 29. Ensure all coaches are aware of MSD and PIAA rules applicable to their sport and the expectations of coaches. 30. Ensure compliance with all MSD and PIAA rules. 31. Submit work orders for necessary facility repairs or routine maintenance. 32. Provide booking agents with a complete schedule prior to the season. 33. Work with the principal in finding new coaches as openings occur. 34. Review and approve the rules and responsibilities set forth by the coach of each individual team, prior to the dissemination of players and their families. 35. Communicate with the special education department the names of all athletes trying out for individual sports, as well as the final team roster, to assist in identifying best practices when working with athletes. 36. Ensure coaches maintain open and timely communication with athletes, families, and the special education department, including best practices when working with athletes. 37. Develop and communicate an athletic handbook that is updated on a yearly basis and reviewed with coaches, athletes, and parents. 38. Ensure athletic department webpage is up to date with all pertinent information, including but not limited to contact information, schedules, results, awards, and athletic handbook. 39. Complete end-of-season evaluations on coaching staff members, submit recommendations to the principal, meet with the principal, and hold end-of-season exit interviews with coaches to review evaluations. 40. Performs other related duties as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities: Non-licensed staff in the Athletics, including coaches and trainer(s). Qualifications/Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience: 1. Bachelor's degree in a job-related area is preferred. 2. A minimum of five years coaching, sports administration, or related field(s) at the middle/senior high school level preferred. 3. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate effectively with students, parents, and the community in general. 4. Must possess administrative, organizational, and financial skills in addition to a thorough knowledge of athletic policy and procedure. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: all offered via SafeSchools: 1. Completion of PIAA certification program within two years from the date of hire. 2. Completion of the following courses annually, before holding practice with their students: Concussion Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Athletes. 3. Completion of mandatory trainings required by PDE on an annual basis.
