CTE TEACHER - AGRICULTURE EDUCATION Alexander Central High School General Statement of Job Provide instruction as part of the district's Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. This role involves developing industry-aligned, hands-on learning experiences to help students gain both technical knowledge and workplace readiness skills. Inspire student interest in agricultural science, environmental systems, and related career pathways while promoting leadership through organizations like FFA. Required Education

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Agriculture or a related field

• Relevant agricultural industry experience required if not licensed educator

• 2 years with a bachelor's degree, or

• 4 years with an associate degree.

• Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in 700-Agriculture Education

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging instruction in agriculture-related subjects, including natural resources, animal science, horticulture, and agricultural mechanics, based on license and local needs

• Create a safe and structured classroom/lab environment for hands-on experiences

• Develop lesson plans that align with NC CTE Essential Standards and prepare students for industry-recognized credentials

• Supervise and care for school-based agricultural projects, gardens, greenhouses, or animal facilities as applicable

• Integrate leadership development through FFA, including student participation in events, competitions, and SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) projects

• Sponsor and coordinate FFA activities and events at the local, regional, and state levels, including meetings, competitions, community service projects, and leadership development activities.

• Maintain accurate student records in compliance with state and local policies

• Collaborate with colleagues, administration, advisory councils, and community/business partners

• Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal or CTE director

Essential Knowledge and abilities

• Knowledge of agriculture science, agribusiness, and natural resources

• Ability to develop engaging, real-world instructional activities

• Familiarity with state and national CTE standards and industry certification

• Strong classroom management and organizational skills

• Effective communication and collaboration skills

• Ability to work flexible hours to support student projects, school farms, or FFA activities

• Comfortable operating equipment related to agriculture and classroom instruction.

• Must have a minimal level of eye/hand/foot coordination.

• Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.

• Physically able to supervise hands-on work and manage related materials and equipment
