TITLE: Library Clerk - Elementary REPORTS TO AND IS EVALUATED BY: Elementary Principal AVAILABLE: August 31, 2026 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time, 10-Month Work Year; Non-Exempt. 60-day probationary period applies for performance. Hourly rate in accordance with PESPA Collective Bargaining Agreement. HOURS: 3 hours/day on student days PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: To assist the building principal and the school librarian by providing clerical support so as to support an effective child-centered educational program for all students in a safe, cooperative environment which promotes learning and positive self-discipline. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Under the direction of the librarian, assist students and staff by locating materials, checking materials in and out, pulling special collections and printing bibliographies.
• Assist the librarian with all correspondence.
• Process new materials by (i) applying ownership stamp to all materials, (ii) applying pockets, bar codes, labels and covers, (iii) typing and attaching spine labels; (iv) covering books and reinforcing paperback books with laminated covers, and (v) assisting with the entering of material records into the computer.
• Assist with material circulation routine by scanning materials in and out, shelving books, printing overdue notices, and processing reserve materials and fine notices.
• Assist with the maintenance of the library collection by repairing books as well as repairing and replacing missing pockets, bar code labels and book jackets.
• Maintain computerized card catalog under the direction of the librarian by recording data for new materials, deleting information from the computer and updating key words in the system.
• Do library typing and input under the direction of the librarian by recording patron data, processing purchase orders, processing magazines, maintaining collections and updating computer user agreements.
• Manage finances under the direction of the librarian by keeping track of budget and activity fund balances. Write orders, vouchers and handle the bills payable.
• Assist in the inventory of library materials.
• Provide coverage in the Main Office as necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Elementary Principal.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: High School Diploma QUALIFICATIONS/REQUISITE SKILLS:
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate effectively with elementary-age children.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Computer expertise including the ability to effectively utilize the Internet as a research tool.
• Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality.
• Any additional or alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of School Directors.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Clearances must be within 12 months and TB must be within 90 days of hire date.
