Leominster Public Schools 2026-2027 School Year Samoset Middle School ELL Teacher Goal: ELL Teachers instruct students whose first language is not English. The goal is for the ELL Teacher to teach/instruct English language learners to read, speak, listen, and write English, so they can achieve grade level proficiency in all academic areas. The ELL Teacher must be highly knowledgeable in the content and structure of the English language as well as the methodology for teaching English to non-native speakers.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Teaches and instructs the English Language Proficiency Standards in accordance with approved methods of language instruction, and other appropriate learning activities.
• Coordinates and administers the ACCESS English language test.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students.
• Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers to scaffold and support students' access to grade level content.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
• Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress.
• Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems. Co-teaches in classrooms as deemed possible.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Preferred certification in ESL and/or willing to get certified by the end of this school year.
