Vernon Job Description Position Title: Maintenance Building Technician Department: Maintenance FLSA Status: Hourly / Non-Exempt Employment Status: Full-Time, Year-Round Reports To: Maintenance and Custodian Foreman Position Summary The Maintenance Building Technician is responsible for helping maintain the safety, functionality, and appearance of all Mt. Vernon Junior High facilities and grounds. Working as part of a collaborative maintenance team, this position performs a variety of maintenance, repair, construction, and preventative maintenance tasks that support exceptional learning environments for students and staff. While each technician may bring expertise in a particular trade, all members of the maintenance department are expected to work together across multiple disciplines to solve problems, complete projects, and respond to the daily needs of the district. Essential Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on Junior High buildings, grounds, equipment, and systems.

• Troubleshoot maintenance issues and determine practical, effective solutions.

• Complete work involving carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical systems, painting, flooring, roofing, and general building maintenance as assigned.

• Safely operate district vehicles, equipment, power tools, and specialized machinery.

• Respond to maintenance requests and emergency situations in a timely manner.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

• Assist with grounds maintenance, snow removal, furniture moves, event setup, and other operational needs.

• Work collaboratively with fellow maintenance staff to complete projects efficiently.

• Follow all district safety procedures, applicable codes, and established maintenance practices.

• Participate in on-call or emergency maintenance responsibilities as assigned.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Experience in maintenance, construction, mechanical repair, or a skilled trade preferred.

• Technical or vocational training is beneficial but not required.

• Valid Indiana driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

• Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and maintenance vehicles.

Physical Requirements This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment. Employees must be able to safely operate tools and equipment, work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, and lift up to 75 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. The position also requires climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and responding to emergency maintenance situations when necessary. Our Commitment At MSD of Mt.
