About this role

Position Summary The Tripoli Community School District is seeking a dependable, conscientious, and service-oriented Evening Building Custodian to help maintain clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming facilities throughout the high school and gymnasium. This position is generally scheduled Monday through Friday, approximately 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with flexibility as needed to accommodate athletic events, school activities, and facility needs. The Evening Building Custodian is responsible for a variety of custodial and routine building-maintenance duties, with particular emphasis on maintaining the gymnasium, athletic areas, restrooms, common areas, and other assigned spaces. The position will also be responsible for cleaning and preparing facilities following athletic events and other evening activities. The successful candidate will take pride in their work, demonstrate strong attention to detail, work effectively with limited supervision, and contribute to the District's commitment to providing a clean, safe, and positive environment for students, staff, families, and community members. The Evening Building Custodian will work cooperatively with the head custodian, building administrators, teachers, coaches, activities staff, event personnel, and other district employees to ensure facilities are clean, orderly, secure, and ready for daily use. Qualifications Education

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

• Previous custodial, housekeeping, maintenance, or related experience preferred.

• Experience working in a school, public facility, or similar environment is desirable but not required.

• Experience working independently and following established cleaning procedures is beneficial.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities General Custodial Duties

• Clean and maintain assigned areas of the high school and gymnasium.

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors using appropriate equipment and procedures.

• Dust and clean classrooms, offices, hallways, common areas, restrooms, locker rooms, and other assigned spaces.

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, sinks, toilets, showers, and other fixtures.

• Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of materials appropriately.

• Clean windows, doors, glass, walls, and other surfaces as needed.

• Replenish restroom, custodial, and other building supplies.

• Perform routine cleaning and sanitation duties to maintain a healthy school environment.

• Assist with deep cleaning, seasonal cleaning, and special cleaning projects as assigned.

• Maintain cleanliness throughout assigned areas and respond promptly to areas requiring additional attention.

Gymnasium and Event Responsibilities

• Clean and prepare the gymnasium following athletic events, activities, and other school functions.

• Remove trash and debris from the gymnasium, bleachers, entrances, hallways, restrooms, and other event areas.

• Sweep and mop gymnasium floors using appropriate procedures and equipment.

• Clean locker rooms and athletic areas following events.

• Help maintain a clean and orderly environment before and after school activities.

• Monitor event areas for spills, debris, or other safety concerns and address them promptly.

• Assist with cleanup following evening athletic events and other activities.

• Ensure facilities are clean and appropriately prepared for the next school day or scheduled event.

Safety and Security

• Help maintain a safe and sanitary environment for students, staff, and visitors.

• Follow established procedures for the safe use, storage, labeling, and disposal of cleaning chemicals and supplies.

• Operate custodial equipment according to manufacturer and district safety procedures.

• Promptly report spills, damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, maintenance needs, and other hazards.

• Secure assigned areas, doors, windows, and facilities as directed at the conclusion of the evening shift.

• Follow district emergency procedures and promptly report emergencies or unusual situations to the appropriate administrator.

• Maintain awareness of individuals remaining in the building after regular school hours and follow district procedures as needed.

Equipment and Supplies

• Safely operate vacuums, floor scrubbers, buffers, mops, ladders, and other custodial equipment.

• Help maintain custodial equipment in good working condition.

• Report equipment malfunctions or repair needs promptly.

• Monitor custodial supplies and notify the appropriate supervisor when supplies need to be reordered.

• Properly and securely store equipment, chemicals, and supplies.

• Assist with custodial inventory as assigned.

Facilities and Routine Maintenance

• Perform routine custodial and minor maintenance tasks within the scope of the position.

• Assist with setting up and taking down rooms, furniture, equipment, and other items for school activities as assigned.

• Maintain hallways, entrances, stairways, common areas, and other building spaces in a clean and orderly condition.

• Assist with snow, ice, water, or other facility-related concerns as directed and appropriate.

• Report building maintenance needs to the head custodian or administration.

• Assist with special cleaning, maintenance, and facility projects as assigned.

Communication and Collaboration

• Maintain positive and professional communication with administrators, teachers, coaches, students, event personnel, and other district staff.

• Promptly communicate facility concerns, maintenance needs, supply shortages, and safety issues.

• Respond appropriately to requests for custodial assistance.

• Work cooperatively with the head custodian, building administrators, teachers, coaches, activities staff, and other district personnel.

• Coordinate cleanup needs related to athletic events and other evening activities.

• Assist other custodial staff when needed to ensure district facilities are properly maintained.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, school operations, and other sensitive information.

Physical Requirements The employee must be able to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods.

• Bend, stoop, kneel, squat, climb, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive physical movements.

• Lift, carry, move, and transport supplies, equipment, furniture, and other items weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Operate custodial equipment for extended periods.

• Climb ladders and safely access areas requiring elevated cleaning.

• Work in environments involving dust, cleaning chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures.

• Perform the physical tasks necessary to clean and maintain school facilities.

Working Conditions

• Primarily an evening position during the school year, generally approximately 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

• Work is performed throughout high school classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, gymnasium, athletic facilities, and other school areas.

• Regular work following athletic events and other evening activities.

• Occasional schedule adjustments or additional hours may be required for special events, activities, or facility needs.

• Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and varying indoor temperatures.

• Regular interaction with students, staff, coaches, event personnel, families, and community members.

• Work schedule may vary based on athletic events, school activities, and building needs.

Terms of Employment Work schedule, salary, benefits, and other terms of employment are established by the Tripoli Community School District Board of Education and applicable district policies and negotiated agreements. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background checks, paraeducator certification requirements, and all required district trainings.
