About this role

This is a school year position Work schedule: Monday - Friday 6:45am to 3:15pm PURPOSE Patrol and supervise campus activities to assure the safety and security of students, staff and visitors at designated locations during assigned business, school, and co-curricular events hours; act as a law-related counselor, and a law-related educator. Investigate incidents and assure student, staff and visitor compliance with local and Indiana laws, school and district rules, and policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 21 years of age

• Must have a valid driver's license.

• High School Diploma

• Prior law enforcement or any combination equivalent including: criminal justice field or first responder, military service, or security officer.

• Must possess knowledge of the methods, terminology, principles, practices, procedures, materials and equipment used in assigned ?eld.

• Must participate and pass all required training.

• Must have strong organizational, oral and written communication skills. Must possess knowledge of the methods, terminology, principles, practices, procedures, materials and equipment used in assigned field.

• The School Security Officer is required to have functional knowledge of protocols related to juvenile investigations, a basic understanding of evidence collection and preliminary investigations and knowledge regarding mediation and conflict resolution, basic crime prevention and problem solving.

• Must be familiar with community agencies which o?er assistance to youths and their families such as mental health providers, youth service centers, and juvenile probation, and make referrals when appropriate.

• The incumbent is required to be legally able to carry a firearm, pass a weapons qualification course and qualify on all other duty-related equipment.

• Upon completion of the approved firearms training course, School Security Officers must be authorized to carry a firearm by the FWCS School Board in accordance with applicable policies and legal requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Abiding by school board policies and applicable law, patrol and supervise campus, assuring students, staff and visitors are safe, orderly, secure and within supervised areas; monitor hallways, walkways, restrooms, parking lots, grounds, classrooms and adjacent areas; assure safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and private and school property, buildings and grounds.

• Enforce and assure compliance with local, state and federal laws, and District rules, policies and regulations; respond to complaints from students, staff and visitors; investigate, deter, identify and report unusual, suspicious or criminal activities; prevent, de-escalate or break up conflicts and incidents of aggression.

• Confer and collaborate with administrators, faculty and staff concerning student behavior, building security, safety and enforcement activities; may be called to assist with interview and investigation of students, and others concerning security or safety incidents; report incidents involving students and the public to school administration or applicable staff, and inform the Security Supervisor.

• Escort and direct authorized visitors to desired destinations; provide general information and assistance; assure students, staff and visitors on campus are authorized visitors; escort unauthorized visitors off campus; lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate.

• Provide proactive and visible support for school staff, faculty, and administrators in maintaining proper student discipline; locate and escort students to and from administrative offices as needed; refer students to administrative offices for various infractions as appropriate.

• Monitor campus for illegal activity; investigate and report instances of graffiti and vandalism; search for and confiscate illegal possessions as directed; provide information to confer with and assist law enforcement agencies concerning legal matters involving students, staff and visitors; arrange for, assist with, file and submit police reports as required.

• Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate personnel; respond to emergency situations as needed; assist with the implementation of emergency preparedness plans as directed.

• Prepare detailed incident reports and complete daily log activities accounting for involvement and interactions with students, staff and parents or visitors. Provide professional customer service. Maintain routine records related to incidents and daily activities; prepare and process various forms.

• Assist with emergency procedures and preparedness plans as directed.

• Perform related duties, as assigned. May be required to perform duties or assist outside of assigned school. Perform related duties as assigned by the Security Supervisor and or the Director of Security to meet the needs of the district.

REQUIREMENTS: 1. Clean background with no criminal history. 2. Reliable transportation. 3. Strong work ethics and professional demeanor. 4. Consistent attendance throughout the school year calendar. 5. Proficiency in communication and report writing. 6. Strong verbal and written communication skills. DRESS AND EQUIPMENT: All School Security Officers must wear the assigned uniform and provide approved duty firearm. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS To perform the essential functions of this job effectively and safely, employees must meet the following physical qualifications:

• Communication Skills: Ability to speak clearly and hear effectively in various environments.

• Manual Dexterity: Adeptness in the use of hands and fingers.

• Postural Endurance: Sit or stand for prolonged periods, as the job requires.

• Flexibility: Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch to perform specific duties.

• Visual Acuity: Close vision ability with the capacity to adjust focus.

• Mobility: Freedom to sit, walk and stand at will throughout the work environment for extended periods of time.

• Strength and Stamina: Capability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty (50) pounds or more.

• Outdoor Work: Tolerance of work outside in various weather conditions.
