Job SummaryAbout the Position: This position is located at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Virginia within the Directorate of Mental Health Substance Abuse. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying clinic procedures for working the front desk, scheduling patient appointments, maintaining patient medical records, referring patients to other clinics, and providing information to patients and staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Major DutiesAs Unit receptionist, greet patients, provide instructions to patients on test preparation, and procedural requirements; arrange appointments; and gather preliminary information for medical records.Conduct records management procedures to assemble patients’ charts, record providers’ orders, enter and retrieve x-rays, laboratory reports and patient data.Use automated and/or manual records system to extract medical information, generate follow-up and/or aftercare instructions, inpatient admissions and discharge and/or transfer information.Prepare reports based on the requirements specified by supervisor or standard procedures, and the intended use of the data or report to respond to data calls.
