QualificationsRequirements Continued - As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a one (1) year supervisory probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 08/17/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes in-depth knowledge of park management principles, practices, techniques, laws, and regulations. Experience includes managing complex interpretive, education, or partnership programs serving natural, subsistence, and cultural resources or public land outdoor recreation; providing expertise for education, interpretive, or partnership planning, program, and projects for one or more complex organizations including natural, subsistence, and cultural resources or public land outdoor recreation; developing diverse interpretive or education programs and advising on ways to strengthen performance for serving natural, subsistence, and cultural resources or public land outdoor recreation; or providing policy and guidelines, staff advice, and technical direction for interpretive services or education or partnership programs serving natural, subsistence, and cultural resources or public land outdoor recreation. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the work schedule requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Major DutiesThe major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Principal advisor to the Regional Director, Deputy Regional Director, and the Associate Regional Directors concerning interpretation, education, youth programs and partnerships in all park areas in the region. Directs fiscal management for regional interpretation, education and youth programs, including development and implementation of financial plans and operating programs. Represents the region on national, regional, and local work groups related to program areas. Provides leadership in developing strategic plans for achievement of regional and servicewide goals and objectives. Works collaboratively with other program leaders throughout the region to coordinate interpretative, education, youth programs and partnership initiatives and activities and works collaboratively to address region-wide issues of concern. Physical Demands: The work is generally sedentary requiring mental more than physical stamina. Frequent travel to meetings is required, sometimes in remote locations. Working Environment: Most of the work is performed in an office environment, with occasional visits to field sites that may require walking outdoors for short periods.RequirementsMust provide proof of U.S. citizenship. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You are required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority. The position to which you will be appointed is subject to a financial disclosure reporting requirement and you will be required to complete a new entrant Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) within 30 days of your appointment.
