About this role

Job SummaryAs a GS-13 Public Affairs Specialist you will be part of the Communications Division, Office of Communications and Legislative Affairs, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. If selected, you will be responsible for advising and assisting the Director of Communications in the development, administration, coordination and execution of the plans, policies and procedures for carrying out EEOC's communications program activities, to include various writing, editing, and media relations.

QualificationsFor the GS-13: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as researching, analyzing and applying established best practices in media relations; working with the media and general public to communicate about an organization's mission and work; developing and executing communication strategies focused at reaching a specific audience; developing communications plans, messaging strategies, best practice guides or tools for training and awareness for employees and managers. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Major DutiesProvides technical assistance to the Director of Communications.Communicates with the media and external non-government organizations.Recommends and participates in the development and strategic planning of communications policies and goals.Prepares Commission responses to public inquiries and coordinates internal communications.Develops, writes, and edits news releases and original material for public dissemination and for EEOC publications.Provides advice to managers in coordinating, developing, and implementing communication outreach plans and projects.
