QualificationsGENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months experience in the following: Diagnosing, repairing overhauling, modifying: Complex vehicle Equipment Complicated systems Knowledge of diagnostic equipment Skill in applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques to resolve maintenance problems Ability to test, inspect, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles
Major DutiesAs a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC INSPECTOR, WG-5801-11, you will: Inspects a large variety of heavy-duty mobile equipment Inspects complex, interrelated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and electrical systems, equipment and their components while in operation or in a standby condition Inspects and performs tests to braking, steering, and differential systems Inspects equipment to determine repairs needed Prepares lists of needed repairs, parts, and man-hours authorized.RequirementsAdditional Employment Requirements: -Participation in direct deposit is mandatory -May be required to successfully complete a probationary period -Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation -Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service You may be required to successfully complete a 1- or 2- year probation/trial period to assess performance, conduct, agency needs, public interest, and efficiency.
