Large beams, round tubes, rebar, and sheet metal are among the products you'll be picking. It's "tough, rugged, and physically demanding work. " What can you expect? - A fixed 40-hour workweek with the prospect of a contract - Hourly wage starting at 14.74 gross per hour (based on your experience) - 2-shift schedule (7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.) - 12.5% shift differential for each shift - Travel expense reimbursement for distances of 10 km or more. So if you enjoy working on your own, without a boss constantly looking over your shoulder, then this job is for you. Steel order picking-how does it work? Just like in a regular warehouse, the products are stored in different locations. These locations all have a unique code that identifies the material and its location. As an order picker, you print out a work order on the computer that specifies exactly what you need to pick and where it's located. You walk to that location, use the handheld scanner to pick the product, and then move it to a spot where the loading crew can load it onto the truck. Moving the steel is, of course, too heavy to do by hand, which is why you use various types of overhead cranes. These allow you to secure the products, lift them, and move them.
