BOKU UNIVERSITY The Department of Ecosystem Management, Climate and Biodiversity, Institute of Geomatics is currently seeking a 1 Postdoctoral Research Associate (Senior Scientist) (Reference code 160) Extent of employment: 40 hours per week Duration of employment: 1st of November 2026, limited to 31st of October 2032 (with the option of a permanent extension) Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 lit. b Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 5.014,30 (payable 14 times per year) Responsibilities º The applicant is expected to establish an own research group with focus on advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques for remote sensing applications. This includes satellite-based Earth Observation as well as airborne, and terrestrial laserscanning while building at the same time a strong link to already established research activities at the institute º Application fields include Ecology, Biodiversity, Monitoring, Forestry and Agriculture º High motivation to implement her/his own vision º Acquire third-party-funded research projects º Publishing research through the preparation and submission of journal and conference papers and participating in academic conferences º Carry out scientific research, and be active in acquisition of external research funding º Teach courses at both undergraduate (BSc) and graduate (MSc) levels, and inspire students through teaching and supervision (4 weekly semester hours) º Supervising and mentoring undergraduate students, postgraduate students and research associates º Participate in activities related to the university representation, scientific divulgation and knowledge transfer to society Required skills and qualifications º Doctoral degree/PhD in Geosciences, Environmental sciences, remote sensing or computational sciences or image vision and related fields º Language skills: Excellent English skills, German is beneficial Desirable skills and qualifications º Expertise in advanced machine learning, deep learning and image vision techniques with focus on EO data (e.g. deep convolutional neural networks, transformers, deep learning based anomaly analysis) º Teaching experience at university level º Very good programming skills º Strong publication record º Strong potential for independent and collaborative research º Excellent English, German language skills advantageous º Experience with the acquisition of external research funds º Experience with radiative transfer models º Experience with creating synthetic remote sensing data and virtual 3D scenes Applications can be submitted until: 6th of October 2026 University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna seeks to increase the number of its female faculty and staff members.
