Job Description - Senior Offshore Structural Designer Title: Senior Offshore Structural Designer Company: KBR - Inhouse Engineering Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE - KBR Office Key Consideration: Preference will be given to candidates holding valid OPITO-approved T-BOSIET/BOSIET and H₂S certifications with a minimum validity of six months. The selected candidate may be required to travel to ADNOC offshore facilities as required to support site surveys, field verification, laser-scan/point-cloud validation, as-built checks, redline updates and collection of project-specific design data for brownfield structural modifications.
Job Purpose
• Develop and coordinate fixed offshore brownfield structural design, modelling and drafting deliverables for existing wellhead platforms, jackets, topsides, bridges, flare structures, access structures and associated modifications. • Implement approved engineering intent through accurate 3D models, fabrication drawings, MTOs and as-built deliverables. • Maintain designer and engineer responsibility boundaries by ensuring structural member sizes, load paths, systems and connection concepts are changed only with approval from the responsible Structural Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain 3D structural models using project hierarchy, naming conventions, model ownership rules, grids, elevations and coordinate systems. • Model and detail primary and secondary steel, grating, handrails, stairs, ladders, access platforms, penetrations, cut-outs, local framing, connections and node details. • Prepare and extract general arrangement, plan, elevation, section, detail, fabrication, erection and as-built drawings from the 3D model. • Extract and reconcile MTOs, distinguish new, modified, reused and removed steel, and maintain model, drawing, status and revision control. • Coordinate point-cloud/laser-scan information, existing drawings, structural records, field mark-ups and as-built survey inputs. • Participate in model reviews, clash checks, constructability reviews and design review meetings; resolve detailing, access and interface issues with engineering approval. • Support site surveys, field verification, redline updates and final as-built documentation for brownfield modifications. • Ensure designer deliverables are aligned with approved engineering calculations, specifications, project procedures, client requirements and document management workflows.
Experience
• Minimum 10 years of offshore structural design and drafting experience within oil and gas projects. • Proven experience across Concept Select, FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC and brownfield modification phases. • Experience with fixed offshore platforms, jackets, topsides, bridges, flare structures, wellhead towers and associated brownfield structural modifications is required. • ADNOC Offshore, ADNOC Group, Middle East or comparable major operator brownfield offshore experience is preferred.
Qualifications
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent recognized engineering design qualification. • .
Technical Skills
• Advanced proficiency in at least one primary offshore 3D design platform, such as AVEVA E3D/PDMS or Hexagon Smart 3D. • Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience with Navisworks or equivalent model-review tools. • Strong detailing capability for primary and secondary steel, access platforms, grating, handrails, stairs, ladders, penetrations, cut-outs, local framing, connections and nodes. • Practical experience in MTO extraction and reconciliation, model status control, revision control, data exchange and document management. • Working knowledge of ADNOC Offshore drafting/model procedures, applicable offshore standards, AISC 360, AWS D1.1 and relevant client requirements. • Strong awareness of constructability, fabrication, offshore installation, safety-in-design, multidisciplinary interfaces and brownfield execution constraints.
