City of CastlegarJourney MechanicBASIS: FULL TIME, PERMANENT | CLOSING DATE: AUGUST 21, 2026 AT 9:00 A.M. The Journey Mechanic is responsible for servicing, preventative maintenance, and repairs for all small equipment, vehicles, and heavy equipment, including Fire Department vehicles.Key ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Mechanical Shop Foreperson, this position is responsible for all maintenance of the City?s fleet and equipment. This position may purchase parts and supplies for vehicles and equipment, and ensure that all necessary records of servicing, repairs, and preventative maintenance are updated on a regular basis. They must be familiar with hydraulic systems, electronic diagnostics and computerized systems, able to troubleshoot and repair fuel injection systems, electronic controls, small engines, fuel systems and electrical systems, and able to operate heavy equipment and other designated equipment.QualificationsThe successful candidate will hold a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic Certificate with a BC Class 3 Drivers Licence with air brake endorsement.This position is a CUPE Local 2262 position with an hourly rate of $40.34 plus $1.75/hr Trades Premium if eligible (September 1, 2025 rates) plus benefits and enrollment in the Municipal Pension Plan.Please visit our website at www.castlegar.ca for a full job description and information about our community.Qualified applicants are invited to submit their detailed resume via email by 9:00 a.m. on Friday August 21, 2026, to [email protected] with the subject line Journey Mechanic.
