Job Summary
The Specialist III, Communications role requires the skill of a seasoned professional who needs minimal review of work. The role is responsible for developing and executing advanced communication strategies that support Denver Health's mission, brand and strategic objectives. This role manages complex projects, creates high-impact content for both internal and external audiences and ensures consistent messaging across various channels. The Communications Specialist works closely with key stakeholders across the organization to support initiatives related to internal and external communications, executive communications, patient communications, marketing, media relations, crisis communications, and employee engagement.
Essential Functions:
• Strategic Content Development: Develops and executes comprehensive communication plans that align with Denver Health’s strategic priorities. Creates high-quality, audience-specific content for a variety of platforms, including internal communications, social media, press releases, executive messaging and marketing campaigns. (30%)
• Editorial Oversight & Copyediting: Leads editorial planning and content calendar development, ensuring a cohesive approach to storytelling across all channels. Produces monthly external newsletter Journeys and manages external distribution list. Also monitors data on open rates, click rates and general growth of this external product. (30%)
• Serves as the final set of eyes on all internal and external collateral, ensuring accuracy, clarity, consistency and adherence to brand and AP style guidelines. Provides copyediting, proofreading and quality control for marketing and communication materials. Serves as key contributor to intranet news site (The Pulse) with daily updates to content, and copyediting responsibilities. (15%)
• Supports Media Relations: Assists with media inquiries, drafts press materials and assists with proactive media pitches to enhance Denver Health’s public profile through earned media. Provides media support during events, announcements, or issues management situations including drafting or copyediting key messages and talking points. Participates in on-call schedule (5%)
• Contributes to social media when necessary including content creation and posting (5%)
• Patient and Executive Commnications Explores new ways to connect with patients and undertakes strategies and tactics for patient communication. Helps with executive communications when needed (10%)
• Attends events and represents Denver Health externally (5%)
Education:
• Bachelor's Degree Communications, Journalism or related field required.
Work Experience:
• 4-6 years related work experience with extensive writing required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong written word
• Mastery of AP style
• Skilled in video shooting and editing
• Self-starter and independent thinker who works with limited supervision and guidance
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellence customer service
• Service-oriented working style, excellent organizational abilities, and strong interpersonal skills are required.
• Good judgment/ ability to work cooperatively and in a mentoring role in an integrated team environment.
• Familiarity with content management systems like Sharepoint and Drugal; as well as comms platforms like Mailchimp and Meltwater
