Fleet Mechanic Union Hourly Wage Range: $46.26 - $51.40
PURPOSE: Perform repairs, maintenance, and customization of Dairyland’s fleet (cars, trucks, trailers, track vehicles, ATV’s, groundskeeping equipment, and heavy hydraulic equipment) in a safe and efficient manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Perform all duties outline in the job description for Fleet Mechanic II
• Lead pre-job briefing or crew safety meeting
• Operate CDL vehicles
• Complete Hydraulic repairs per OEM recommended protocols and diagnostics
• Perform Electrical repairs and diagnostics
• Work independently without supervision
• Advanced utilization of scanning equipment Attend vendor/manufacturer technical training
• Perform DOT inspections (after one year of experience) – MN certification if required
• Perform intermediate welding and fabrication
• Assist with service calls Complete truck body mounting
• Complete vehicle intake preparation Complete vehicle retirement
• Proficient operation vehicle radio
• Order parts
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED. Associate or technical degree in vehicle mechanic program or other mechanical skilled program or equivalent experience. Previous mechanical maintenance experience is preferred.
Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively communicate and interact with co-workers and vendors. Basic computer skills needed. General safety awareness.
Licenses and Certifications:
• Class A CDL Driver’s License without restrictions
• Valid Driver’s License
• First Aid and CPR certification within one (1) year
• Refrigerant Recycling Certification per Wisconsin Admin. Code 136.09
• Forklift Operator Training Course
Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching/stooping, squatting, crawling, twisting upper body, bending, reaching/stretching required to inventory, arrange, and clean parts, pushing/pulling, lifting (weights up to 100 lbs.). Access remote field locations to inspect vehicles. Work in/around/under vehicle/equipment. Will also test for color blindness.
Environmental Demands: Works mostly indoors, occasionally outdoors in extreme cold or heat. Work around mechanical, electrical, fume/odor, dust, chemical and natural hazards. Work in a high noise environment. Ability to work in confined spaces.
Other Job Characteristics: Successfully complete medical physical (drug screen, audiogram, heavy work endurance, and pulmonary function). Must complete “Driver’s” Application. Ten-(10) year employment history verification is required per 49CFR391 Qualifications of Drivers – Federal Motor Carrier’s Safety Regulations. Subject to on-call duties. Some overnight travel.
