About this role

Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative, forward thinking nurse who possess' the leadership qualities to manage and support our busy haematology day unit. You will provide expert clinical knowledge and judgment for our staff and patients.

You will be expected to co-ordinate the unit safely and effectively and be willing to have a "hands on" approach in providing high quality care, whilst being visible and approachable on the unit at all times.

This is a permanent position and you will be supported by the unit manager and clinical matron.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the safe co-ordination of the Haematology Day Unit

To be a senior chemotherapy nurse, supporting junior members of the team.

To assist with managerial duties

To supervise and assess students and junior band 5 nurses.

The patient and patients are always put first That in all issues, the patient/patients requirements are met and all staff contribute fully to achieving the Trust's corporate goals and objective

A. MANAGING ACTIVITIES

A2. Manage activities to meet requirements

2.1 Ensure all policies are implemented and information disseminated to the clinical team.

2.2 Maintain a healthy, safe and productive work environment

2.3 Ensure products and services meet quality requirements

2.4 Adhere to the Trusts policies, procedures and guidelines

2.5 The post holder must comply with all relevant policies, procedures and training on infection prevention and control.

2.6 Ensure all clinical staff attend annual mandatory updates and maintain records of attendance.

3.1 Assess and agree patients requirements

A3. Manage services within designated scope of authority

3.1 Agree service requirements with Ward Manager /Matron.

3.2 Identify, plan and amend service requirements in consultation with

relevant stakeholders.

3.3 Maintain a healthy, safe and productive working environment in line with legal, organisational and Nursing & Midwifery Council requirements.

3.4 Monitor the quality of nursing services and the products used.

3.5 Ensure that all policy and procedure relating to infection prevention and control is implemented.

A5. Manage change in work methods and practice that will improve the standards of care for patients

5.1 Identify opportunities for improvements in nursing practice as highlighted through evidence and research-based practice.

5.2 Agree the introduction of change.

5.3 Plan the implementation of changes in work methods and practice.

5.4 Evaluate the impact of changes on standards of patient care.

B. MANAGE RESOURCES

B1. Support the efficient use of resources

1.1 Make recommendations for the use of resources.

1.2 Contribute to the control of resources.

B2. Manage the use of physical resources in consultation with Matron/Sisters/Charge Nurses, to ensure a cost-effective service is provided

2.1 Plan the use of physical resources.

2.2 Support the deployment of physical resources.

2.3 Obtain resources, staff and non-staff.

2.4 Ensure availability of supplies.

2.5 Maintain the supply of physical resources.

2.6 Monitor compliance against budget in conjunction with Matron.
