Main duties of the job

You will deliver high-quality, evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy services tailored to the needs of children and young people with a range of Speech, Language and Communication Needs. Working across schools, clinics, community settings and Youth Justice Services, you will assess, diagnose and implement effective therapy programmes that support positive outcomes.

The role includes managing your own clinical caseload, maintaining accurate clinical records and reports, and working collaboratively with families, education professionals and multidisciplinary teams. You will also provide professional support and guidance to Speech and Language Therapy Assistants, apprentices and students where appropriate.

In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will contribute to service development initiatives, represent Chatterbug professionally and support the organisation's commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based services.

Job description Job responsibilities Job Purpose

The Speech and Language Therapist will plan, develop and deliver high-quality, evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy services for children and young people across a range of settings, including schools, private clinics, community services and Youth Justice Services. The postholder will contribute to maintaining high standards of professional practice, ensuring safe and effective service delivery and achieving positive outcomes for children, young people and their families.

Working within an innovative social enterprise, the successful candidate will join a team of clinicians committed to raising standards of Speech and Language Therapy practice through evidence-informed approaches, innovation and continuous professional development.

Main ResponsibilitiesThe postholder will:

Deliver evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy assessment, diagnosis and intervention for children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).

Manage a clinical caseload, prioritising work effectively to ensure high-quality, timely service delivery.

Develop and implement individualised therapy programmes tailored to each client's needs.

Work across a variety of environments, including schools, private clinics, community settings and Youth Justice Services.

Maintain accurate, comprehensive and contemporaneous clinical records, reports and documentation in accordance with professional, organisational and regulatory standards.

Monitor, review and evaluate intervention outcomes, adapting therapy programmes where appropriate.

Work collaboratively with families, carers, education staff and multidisciplinary professionals to support positive outcomes for children and young people.

Provide professional advice, guidance and support to parents, carers, teachers and other professionals involved in a child's care.

Support the supervision, development and learning of Speech and Language Therapy Assistants, apprentices and students where appropriate.

Contribute to service development initiatives and continuous improvement activities across the organisation.

Represent Chatterbug professionally when working with partner organisations and external stakeholders.

Work flexibly across service locations in line with operational requirements.

Maintain professional registration and practise in accordance with HCPC and RCSLT professional standards.

Participate in continuing professional development to maintain and enhance clinical knowledge and skills.

Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults at all times.

Promote equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring services are accessible and responsive to the needs of all clients.

Person RequirementsThe successful candidate will demonstrate:

Qualifications

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

Current HCPC registration.

Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), or willingness to maintain membership.

Experience

Experience working with children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs.

Experience delivering Speech and Language Therapy services within education, clinic, community or equivalent settings.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong clinical reasoning and assessment skills.

Effective caseload management and organisational abilities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.
