Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled Estates Maintenance Worker (Specialist) Mechanical to join the Estates DepartmentThe successful candidate will maintain, repair, install and fault-find on a wide range of mechanical building services, plant and equipment across the Trust estate. Duties will include planned preventative maintenance, day-to-day repairs, inspections, small installation works and emergency response.The role covers systems such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, domestic hot and cold water, medical gases, steam generation, drainage, refrigeration, building management systems and other essential hospital services.You will work independently and as part of the Estates team, providing technical support to colleagues, contractors and Trust departments. You will also record work activity and materials using the Trusts maintenance systems.The post includes shift working and emergency support, including responding to major service failures, fire alarm activations and lift entrapments. A standard driving licence may be required for work across community sites.Applicants should have a strong mechanical maintenance background, good fault-finding skills and an understanding of safe working practices. A willingness to undertake further training and competent person duties is essential.This is a key role supporting a safe, compliant and reliable hospital environment for patients, staff and visitors.
Main duties of the job
Maintain, repair, install and fault-find on mechanical plant, equipment and building services across the Trust estate.Carry out planned preventative maintenance, day-to-day repairs, inspections and small installation works.Work on systems including HVAC, medical gases, domestic hot and cold water, LTHW, steam, drainage, refrigeration, ventilation, BMS, pneumatic pod and decontamination equipment.Respond to emergency repairs and major incidents, including loss of heating, hot water, steam, ventilation or medical gases.Participate in shift working and provide out-of-hours emergency support when required.Attend fire alarm activations and lift entrapments, liaising with other trades where needed.Use testing and monitoring equipment to check plant safety, accuracy and performance.Follow safe isolation procedures and ensure work is carried out in line with health and safety standards.Undertake competent person duties where required, such as legionella, medical gases, ventilation and decontamination.Complete condition surveys, evaluate inspection reports and support acceptance testing of new equipment.Record work, hours, materials and maintenance information using the CAFM system.Provide technical advice, support, supervision and on-the-job training to colleagues and contractors.Work independently or as part of the Estates team, following Trust policies, procedures and technical guidance.

Knowledge Essential
Approved Codes of Practice and current regulations in relation to own discipline

Knowledge of Approved Codes of Practice / Health Technical Memoranda in relation to NHS Estate and other disciplines
Qualifications Essential
Apprentice trained tradesperson with either ONC/BTEC (City & Guilds or NVQ level 3 will be considered) Applicants with appropriate trade qualifications that can demonstrate that they have worked in a similar multi-skilled post may be considered
Desirable
HNC Equivalent in building or relevant engineering building services
Experience Essential
Relevant experience within a trade (Mechanical)

Previous experience within a Health Service context
