Job summary
Colne Road Surgery is looking for a reliable, hardworking and friendly Cleaner to join our practice team for 15 hours per week.
This is an important role within our surgery, helping us to provide a clean, safe and welcoming environment for our patients, visitors and staff.
The hours will be worked at the end of the working day, when our clinical rooms are available for cleaning.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, has good attention to detail and can work independently to maintain a consistently high standard of cleanliness. Previous cleaning experience would be helpful, although a positive attitude, reliability and commitment to high standards are equally important.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be responsible for the routine cleaning of the practice.
Duties will include cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and high-touch areas, vacuuming and mopping floors, emptying waste bins and ensuring all areas are left clean, tidy and ready for the following working day.
The post holder will follow practice cleaning schedules and infection prevention and control procedures, use cleaning products and equipment safely and report any cleaning, maintenance or safety concerns to the Practice Manager.
As you will be working within a GP practice, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times is essential.

Job description Job responsibilities
The Cleaner will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout Colne Road Surgery and ensuring the practice provides a clean safe and welcoming environment for patients visitors and staff
The post holder will work mainly at the end of the working day when clinical rooms are available for cleaning
Colne Road Surgery has nine clinical rooms as well as a large patient waiting area reception and administration areas staff facilities and toilets
Main duties and responsibilities
Clean all nine clinical rooms following the practice cleaning schedule
Clean and disinfect work surfaces sinks and other appropriate surfaces within clinical areas
Clean high-touch areas including door handles light switches and other frequently touched surfaces
Vacuum sweep and mop floors as required
Clean the patient waiting room reception areas corridors and communal areas
Clean staff areas kitchen facilities and toilets
Empty waste bins and dispose of waste following practice procedures
Ensure cleaning materials and equipment are stored safely after use
Ensure rooms are left clean tidy and ready for use the following working day
Complete practice cleaning schedules as required
Report any areas requiring additional or specialist cleaning
Infection prevention and control
Follow practice infection prevention and control procedures at all times
Use the correct cleaning products equipment and colour-coded cleaning materials where applicable
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when required
Follow correct procedures for dealing with spillages and contamination in line with practice guidance and training
Follow appropriate waste disposal procedures
Do not handle sharps unless specifically trained and authorised to do so
Report any incorrectly discarded sharps immediately
Report any infection prevention or cleanliness concerns promptly to the Practice Manager
Health and safety
Follow all practice health and safety procedures
Use cleaning products safely and in accordance with COSHH guidance and manufacturer instructions
Use warning signs when floors are wet or where there may be a risk to staff or visitors
Report any hazards damaged equipment maintenance concerns leaks or other safety issues promptly
Ensure cleaning equipment is maintained in a clean and safe condition
Follow practice security arrangements when working within the building
Report any accident incident or near miss in accordance with practice procedures
Confidentiality
The post holder will be working within a GP practice and may see or hear confidential patient information
Patient and staff confidentiality must be maintained at all times
The post holder must not read remove photograph discuss or share confidential information or documentation encountered while carrying out their duties
Any confidentiality or information security concerns must be reported immediately to the Practice Manager
General responsibilities
Work reliably and independently to complete all required cleaning duties
Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and attention to detail
Be respectful and professional when dealing with patients visitors and colleagues
Work cooperatively with the Practice Manager and wider practice team
Inform the Practice Manager when cleaning products or supplies are running low
Attend mandatory training relevant to the role
Follow all relevant SSP Health and practice policies and procedures
Undertake other reasonable cleaning duties appropriate to the role when required
The role involves regular standing walking bending reaching and carrying cleaning equipment
The post holder should be able to undertake the physical duties associated with routine cleaning safely

Experience Essential
Experience of carrying out cleaning duties to a good standard Experience of working independently and managing own workload Experience of following cleaning schedules instructions or set procedures

Previous professional cleaning experience Experience of cleaning in a healthcare or clinical environment Experience of working in a GP practice NHS setting or similar workplace
Qualifications Essential
