Job summary
Maternity Liaison Ward Clerks are front-line staff who play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day running of the maternity wards. They assist with admitting, transferring, and discharging women and babies, ensuring accurate records and smooth administrative processes that directly support safe, high-quality patient care.
The post holder will provide administrative and clerical support to the maternity team, enabling the efficient use of resources and ensuring the smooth operation of the department. Duties include reception tasks, data entry, booking appointments, and supporting both clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
You will be a key member of the Eastbourne maternity team, working closely with midwives, maternity support workers and managers. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work calmly under pressure, and confidence in handling sensitive or challenging situations with professionalism and care.
Main duties of the job
Provide a welcoming and efficient reception service, responding to queries from staff, patients, and visitors. Admit, transfer, and discharge women and babies using PAS and BadgerNet maternity systems. Communicate discharges to community teams. Register new women on PAS and manage self-referrals for pregnancy care. Ensure patient records are available and electronic patient tracking systems are kept up to date in line with Trust policy. Support maternity staff with ad hoc administrative and clerical duties to ensure smooth running of the department. Handle telephone calls and messages, and emails and escalating as appropriate. Assist with data extraction and daily reports when required.
