An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Management Accountant to join the Finance Team at East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT).
Based in London, this role will provide financial management support to the North East London portfolio. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the post holder will play a key role in delivering a comprehensive and high-quality financial management service to a range of Directorates.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing timely financial information, detailed analysis, and professional advice to budget holders and senior managers, supporting effective decision-making and financial performance. The role will also contribute to the delivery of the Trust's Going Forward Going Together (GFGT) programme, helping to drive financial sustainability and continuous improvement across services.

Main duties of the job
As a Management Accountant, you will support the Finance Business Partner and Head of Finance in the following key areas:
Finance and Business Planning. Contributing to the annual budget setting/planning process. Completion of month end financial adjustments. Production of the month end Financial Performance reports. Maintaining accurate and timely Resource reports (Establishments) that support Workforce Planning and Reporting. Continuously improving and developing the management accounting service to budget holders.

As a Management Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of a high-quality financial management service across designated Directorates. Working closely with budget holders, operational managers, and senior stakeholders, you will provide timely, accurate, and robust financial information to support informed decision-making and effective budgetary control.
You will be responsible for the preparation, analysis, and presentation of financial reports, ensuring that budget managers have access to high-quality financial data and insights to effectively manage their resources and achieve financial objectives. Through proactive business partnering, you will support the identification, development, and implementation of strategies to improve financial performance and deliver value for money.
The role requires the ability to interpret complex financial information and communicate this clearly and effectively to both finance and non-finance colleagues. You will provide professional advice, challenge, and support to budget holders, helping them understand financial risks, opportunities, and the actions required to achieve financial plans and performance targets.
The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build strong working relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders. You will be confident in discussing financial matters, explaining complex information in an accessible manner, and making recommendations that support sound financial management and organisational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive financial management support to allocated services and Directorates.Produce timely, accurate, and insightful monthly financial reports, forecasts, and budget monitoring information.Support budget holders in the effective management of their budgets through regular financial review meetings and professional advice.Analyse financial performance, identifying variances, trends, risks, and opportunities, and recommend appropriate corrective actions where required.Develop strong working relationships with operational and clinical managers to support informed decision-making and financial accountability.Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, financial plans, and forecasting processes.Support the delivery of cost improvement and efficiency programmes, including identifying opportunities to enhance financial performance.Ensure compliance with Trust financial procedures, policies, and governance requirements.Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting processes, and service delivery.Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, providing high-quality financial information and analysis to support strategic and operational objectives.

Person Specification
Education, training and qualifications Essential
Professional accountancy qualification. Degree level of equivalent combination of short courses and experience.
Desirable
Part Qualified CCAB.
Previous Experience Essential
Experience of providing accounting support to budget managers. Experience of large scale general ledger systems.
Desirable
Oracle financials or similar package. NHS Management Accounts experience. Some experience of costing and/or preparation of Business Cases.
Skills & Abilities Essential
