An exciting opportunity has arisen for an HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist/Clinical Embryologist to join Care Fertility Northampton on a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover contract.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will undertake a wide range of laboratory duties associated with assisted reproductive technology (ART), appropriate to their level of experience. Responsibilities include:
Oocyte collectionSperm preparation and cryopreservationInsemination and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)Fertilisation and embryo assessmentEmbryo freezing and embryo transfer proceduresOocyte cryopreservationParticipation in weekend and bank holiday rotasCandidates with embryo biopsy experience will have opportunities to undertake biopsy procedures. Training can be provided for suitable candidates who do not currently possess this experience.

Job description Job responsibilities
The Clinical Scientist will be responsible for carrying out laboratory activities associated with fertility treatment while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
The post holder will:
Perform embryology laboratory procedures in line with established protocolsContribute to the delivery of high-quality patient-centred careMaintain accurate clinical records and laboratory documentationSupport quality management systems and regulatory requirementsParticipate in service development, audits and research activity where appropriateContribute to weekend and bank holiday cover arrangementsWork collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to achieve optimal patient outcomes

Person Specification
Experience Essential
Clinical embryology laboratory experience Competence in ICSI procedures Experience of working within a regulated clinical laboratory environment
Desirable
Embryo biopsy experience Experience of genetic testing procedures Participation in research or service improvement projects
Qualifications Essential
Youre a state-registered, ICSI-trained Clinical Embryologist Degree in a relevant scientific discipline
Desirable
Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Embryology or related subject Additional specialist training in assisted reproductive technologies
Knowledge & Skills Essential
Sound knowledge of assisted reproductive technology procedures Understanding of quality assurance and governance requirements Excellent attention to detail Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Desirable
Knowledge of emerging fertility technologies Interest in research and innovation within reproductive medicine
