If you're passionate about connecting young people and their caregivers with the right books, resources, and experiences, we'd love to meet you.

We're hiring a friendly, eager-to-learn Youth Services Advisor to join our Kids' World and Hub teams. With on-the-job training, you'll help youth and caregivers navigate our collection, plan and lead creative programs, and connect our community to everything the library has to offer.

We're looking for someone who thrives on building relationships with youth and caregivers, brings energy to every interaction, and is ready to grow with a team of skilled library professionals.

What You'll Do

• Help youth and caregivers find and check out books, movies, music, and games

• Plan and present creative programs centered on popular literature or engaging learning objectives

• Collaborate with library professionals on a variety of youth services projects

• Support outreach visits to local schools and community events

• Staff the Kids' World desk and the Hub (our teen space, 7th-12th grades), connecting customers to collections, programs, and information resources

What You Bring

• Positive, welcoming communication skills

• Proficiency using computers, tablets, and other technology to assist customers

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentations

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

• Familiarity with classroom management principles and childhood development concepts

• Good working knowledge of books, movies, and pop culture for kids and teens (preferred)

• Experience working with youth and multicultural audiences (preferred)

• Experience in customer service and group instruction (preferred)

• Undergraduate degree, or equivalent knowledge and skill in areas related to the responsibilities of this position

The preferred candidate must also demonstrate ability to work effectively with staff and customers in alignment with Our Culture and IDEA.

Hours and Scheduling:

Part-time, averaging 20 hours per week, including one regular weeknight and a weekend rotation. Scheduling flexibility is needed to support the team and our customers.

Benefits include two weeks of prorated leave time, which include vacation, sick and personal time plus 7 paid holidays, participation in Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension plan, availability of Roth/457savings plan and other optional benefits such as pet insurance & identity theft protection.
