About this role
Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor and the General Supervisor, the Technologist performs technical and/or non-technical duties in the laboratory for the proper efficient operation of the Stat clinical laboratory.
• Maintains a neat, clean and efficient work area.
• Utilizes supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
• Arranges priorities, especially for requests that must have very short TAT.
• Follows the Hospital and Laboratory policies for Safety which includes proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and Chemicals.
• Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
• Under the direction of Director, Supervisor or Assistant Supervisor, perform a variety of laboratory procedures.
• Must be able to perform laboratory tests alone or with minimum supervision.
• Must be able to operate and maintain automated instruments and other laboratory equipment based on departmental standard of operation.
• Helps keep good inventory of supplies and other related laboratory materials.
• Helps laboratory maintain good record-keeping through the computer and/or book where applicable.
• Must be prepared to learn new tests or methodologies and run special tests.
• Performs related and unrelated duties assigned: such as preparing solutions, clean laboratory glassware, or taking patients blood.
• Assist supervisor in training of students and trainees in laboratory work and in absence of supervisor may supervise technicians.
• Able to perform or willing to learn laboratory computer operations, such as: accession of specimens with computer, log-in tests requests, print daily log, enter manual results, edit and post results, print reports, retrieve reports and other functions.
• Must possess sufficient academic, technical, and clinical skills and knowledge to evaluate, trouble shoot, research, and resolve day-to-day problems that arise or special projects as assigned by the section supervisor.
• Exercises all duties consistent with the needs of all patients regardless of age. Understands, follows and implements the Hospital's policies for confidentiality of patient and employee records.
• Exhibits good customer relations skills.
• Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
• Performs all other duties as required.
Position Requirements
• This position requires a minimum formal education of Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 1 year job-related experience.
• Desired (not required) criteria include: BS Chemistry or Biology. 2 years Clinical Chemistry Laboratory experience.
• Current NY State Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
