We are hiring an Assistant Manager, Data Center Operations-a frontline people-leadership role for someone with an electrical or mechanical background who has already or looking to progress into team leadership, operational management, and site responsibility.
This role is not technically hands-on heavy. Instead, it focuses on leading people, running day-to-day operations, managing vendors, driving safety and compliance, and coordinating incidents within a mission-critical environment.
What You'll Be Responsible For
People Leadership & Team Management
Lead, coach, and develop a team of data center operations staff, setting clear expectations and high performance standardsOwn shift/team scheduling, resourcing, and handover routines to support 24x7 operationsConduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and development planningSupport hiring, onboarding, training, and capability building across the teamFoster a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement Operational Oversight
Ensure safe, reliable, and compliant day-to-day operations across the data centerOversee routine operational activities including rounds, logs, checks, permits, and documentationCoordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities, ensuring work is properly planned and controlledMaintain high standards of operational readiness, housekeeping, and site discipline Vendor & Contractor Management
Act as the on-site lead for third-party contractors and service providersEnsure all vendor activity meets Equinix safety, quality, and operational standardsMonitor performance, validate work completion, and drive close-out of actionsSupport service reviews and continuous improvement of vendor delivery Incident, Change & Problem Management
Act as a first point of escalation during incidents or abnormal operating conditionsCoordinate on-site response activities, communications, and recovery actionsEnsure incidents are accurately documented with high-quality RCA and corrective actionsSupport change management processes, ensuring risk is assessed, approved, and communicated Safety, Security & Compliance
Role-model and enforce Equinix health, safety, and security standards at all timesEnsure compliance with internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and audit expectationsMaintain accurate site documentation, records, and training complianceParticipate in audits, inspections, and risk-management activities Stakeholder & Customer Support
Partner closely with Engineering, Security, Construction/Projects, and Customer Operations teamsSupport customer requirements and site readiness, including professional engagement during visits or toursEnable project delivery through strong operational coordination and risk management Who We're Looking For
Essential Experience & Background
Electrical or Mechanical backgroundExperience working in a data center, critical facilities, FM, or mission-critical environmentDemonstrated experience leading people (Supervisor, Shift Lead, Team Lead, or similar)Experience coordinating vendors and supporting maintenance or operational activitiesComfortable operating in a 24/7, high-availability environment Skills & Attributes
Strong people-leadership mindset with the ability to coach, motivate, and hold teams accountableOperationally disciplined, structured, and process-drivenCalm and decisive under pressure, particularly during incidentsClear and confident communicator, both written and verbalStrong focus on safety, compliance, and doing things the right way Preferred (Nice to Have)
