About this role

Location: Hammersmith Campus

Contract type: Full-time, fixed term for up to two years (part-time considered)

About the role:

The Chain Florey “Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship” is designed as a stepping stone for clinician scientists seeking external intermediate or independent fellowships. It provides up to 24 months of protected research time, mentorship, and access to world-leading research groups at the LMS to generate preliminary data and develop a competitive external fellowship application. We are looking for bold, ambitious research ideas that will benefit from the support of the LMS’s world-leading research teams and facilities. This award addresses a key gap in the clinical academic career pathway between postdoctoral or clinical lecturer posts and research independence.

What you would be doing:

The role provides up to 24 months of protected research time (80% research; 20% clinical time to maintain competency) to generate preliminary data and develop a competitive fellowship application to national governmental and/or charitable funders. Fellows will receive a comprehensive mentorship programme. This opportunity is for individuals who meet the essential person specification and demonstrate outstanding potential to become leaders in clinical translational medicine.

What we are looking for:

Applicants must hold a PhD and have obtained, or be due to obtain within 12 months, a CCT (or equivalent) at the time of application. Awards provide up to 2 years of full-time research, with the option to maintain clinical practice for one day per week under an Honorary Consultant contract with Imperial College Healthcare or another NHS Trust.

What we can offer you:

Up to 80% protected research time (20% clinical time) to generate preliminary data and develop competitive national or international fellowship applications. A comprehensive mentorship programme. The opportunity to build your career at a world-leading institution dedicated to using science for humanity. Tailored career development and training, including support for clinical academics and a transparent promotion process. A sector-leading salary and benefits package, including 39 days' annual leave and generous pension schemes.
