Overview of the role:
Reporting to Professor Zoltán Molnár, the successful candidate will join a Wellcome Trust-funded project investigating glial cell organisation in the mouse brain. The post-holder will lead a defined area of research, developing and validating approaches to quantitatively map glial cell distribution using histological, imaging and transcriptomic techniques, while supporting students and collaborative research activities.
Key responsibilities:
Lead and manage independent research projects and associated administration. Develop and apply experimental techniques to study glial cells following neuronal manipulation. Analyse complex scientific data and contribute to hypothesis development. Prepare publications, presentations, reports and funding applications. Operate specialist laboratory equipment and provide technical guidance within the research group. Collaborate with national and international research partners. Represent the group at meetings, seminars and scientific events. Contribute to effective laboratory management and maintenance.
Selection criteria:
PhD/DPhil in Neuroscience or a related field (or near completion). Experience working with glial cells in animal model brains. Strong knowledge of astrocyte and microglial biology, including confocal imaging, 3D reconstruction and molecular analysis. UK Home Office personal licence with relevant procedural competency. Ability to manage independent research projects and meet deadlines. Evidence of publications and conference presentations. Experience contributing to funding applications and research development. Excellent communication, teamwork and collaboration skills. Commitment to inclusive and respectful working practices.
