Where is the work: Prioritize engaging with customers. When not directly interacting with customers; collaborate with colleagues in your office. We are seeking a bold, commercially sophisticated VP Sales, Building Energy Optimization to build and scale a strategic growth team across the United States and Canada. Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, this leader will drive market expansion of digital energy optimization solutions, build executive customer relationships, and lead a high-performing sales team focused on delivering measurable business outcomes. This role is ideal for a sales leader who pairs strategic vision with disciplined execution; and is equally effective in the boardroom and in complex deal pursuits. The successful candidate will help customers unlock value through cloud-based building management, AI-supported energy optimization, and strategic energy partnerships. This role is responsible for scaling revenue for one of the most strategic initiatives at Trane Technologies, a $22B F500 global corporation, with market capitalization of over $100B. This is a high-visibility role reporting to an Enterprise Leadership Team (ELT) member at Trane Technologies.
Responsibilities
• Lead the sales strategy and execution for Building Energy Optimization solutions (combination of AI/software, hardware/integrations and deployment services) across the United States and Canada. • Build and scale a new sales team, including market development, sales motions, and team capability. This role will also oversee solution engineering and sales operations. • Develop trusted relationships with building owners and executive stakeholders to drive growth. • Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing, engaged sales team with clear accountability and strong results-orientation. • Champion a business value-driven sales approach centered on business outcomes, financial return (ROI), and sustainability (decarbonization) impact. • Lead complex pursuits by aligning stakeholders, shaping strategy, and driving deals to closure. • Drive rigor in pipeline management, forecasting, opportunity qualification, and sales performance. • Represent the business with credibility in executive customer and market-facing engagements. • Travel extensively across North America as required. Participate in-person meetings and workshops with key accounts and customers.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business, technology or a related field. • 7+ years of progressive digital sales leadership experience leading direct sales teams. Overall 15 years of sales/work experience. • Proven success selling to C-suite executives in complex B2B environments. • Sales and sales leadership experience in enterprise software, cloud platforms, or technology solutions. Ideally have experience at companies such as Google, Salesforce, SAP, Oracle, Workday, Meta, Microsoft, AWS or other enterprise-level software/technology firm. • Proven sales & sales leadership track record, evidenced by President’s Club (or equivalent) sales awards over a stellar sales career • Demonstrated success leading strategic, multi-stakeholder pursuits from origination through close. • Strong experience in value-based selling and outcomes-focused digital sales leadership. • Executive presence, strong communication skills, and the ability to influence senior decision-makers, including CFOs, COOs and business unit Presidents. • Domain expertise in energy optimization, building technologies, digital solutions, controls, or adjacent markets. • This role is based on the East coast. The candidate must have the ability to travel regularly across the United States and Canada.
The salary range posted below is the base salary range. This position does also include a short term and long term incentive plan.
