About this role
The person in this role will support youth in deepening their faith in Jesus Christ and His restored gospel, preparing them to become educated and righteous servants who contribute to building the Kingdom of God. They will assist students in achieving their divine purpose, enabling them to lead successful, self-reliant lives. This role involves providing professional counselling and support to help students navigate career pathways and address personal, behavioural, and social challenges.
The person in this role will work closely with the school principal, church leadership, faculty, students, Church Family Services, and the community to help students develop and achieve their spiritual, academic, and career goals. They will listen to students’ concerns, provide appropriate support and counsel, and implement strategies to meet students' physical, behavioural, and social needs. The role involves creating action plans and recommendations to foster student success, adhering to mandatory reporting requirements, and promoting comprehensive English instruction. Additionally, the person will participate in school leadership teams, support school vision and committees, and collaborate with parents and priesthood leaders. They will also assess and communicate students' needs, contribute to school plans, and align efforts with SAI goals. Regular participation in faculty meetings and professional development is expected, along with seeking and acting on feedback for continuous improvement.
• Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Teaching certificate or counseling certification.
• Experience: 6 years of relevant experience.
• Skills & Knowledge: Advanced understanding of counseling, psychology, and human development; Knowledge of Church School and SAI policy; Proficiency in the Leadership Pattern and Teaching in the Savior's Way.
• Interpersonal Skills: Advanced communication skills (verbal, active listening, negotiation, conflict resolution); Ability to build constructive working relationships with integrity and mutual respect; Empathy and commitment to understanding youth challenges.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite; Ability to communicate clearly in English and Samoa.
• Additional Requirements: Commitment to learning and self-improvement; Understanding of supporting students with disabilities; Alignment with Church Board of Education and SAI Leadership policies; Physical ability to meet job requirements.
