About the Role
Nelson College London is seeking experienced and highly motivated Visiting Lecturers to teach on its University Programme in Business. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate modules at Levels 4, 5 and 6, supporting students to achieve excellent academic outcomes while providing an outstanding learning experience.
Purpose of the Role
Working within the University's Academic Regulations and the College's quality assurance framework, the postholder will contribute to learning and teaching, assessment, curriculum enhancement and scholarly practice. The role requires a commitment to academic excellence, inclusive education, student engagement, academic integrity and continuous quality improvement.
Visiting Lecturers are responsible for delivering modules during teaching periods and, where required, contributing to curriculum planning, module development, assessment design and academic quality activities before the commencement of each term. The postholder will work collaboratively with the Assistant Academic Manager, Course Leaders and the wider Academic Team to support the successful delivery of University Programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning
Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality lectures, workshops and tutorials in Hospitality Management and Business modules. Develop engaging teaching materials, including lecture presentations, learning activities and student handouts. Deliver teaching that encourages active participation, critical thinking and independent learning. Create an inclusive learning environment that supports students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. Provide academic guidance, constructive feedback and appropriate pastoral support to students where required. Supervise student learning and monitor academic progress throughout the module.
Assessment and Feedback
Prepare assessment briefs in accordance with module specifications and University requirements. Mark assessments fairly, consistently and within agreed deadlines. Provide timely, constructive and developmental feedback that supports student learning and progression. Participate in moderation, Assessment Boards and other assessment quality assurance processes as required. Maintain accurate assessment records in accordance with College and University regulations.
Curriculum Development
Contribute to the development, review and enhancement of module content and learning resources. Ensure teaching materials reflect current academic research, professional practice and industry developments. Work collaboratively with Course Leaders and academic colleagues to improve curriculum quality and student outcomes. Academic Quality and Compliance Comply with College policies, University regulations and the UK Quality Code for Higher Education. Support programme monitoring, annual module reviews and quality enhancement activities. Contribute to validation, accreditation and external quality assurance processes where required. Maintain accurate records relating to attendance, assessment, student engagement and academic progress. Ensure academic integrity is promoted through effective assessment and good academic practice.
Student Support
Provide academic advice and guidance to help students achieve their learning objectives. Encourage student engagement and participation throughout the programme. Signpost students to appropriate College support services where necessary.
Digital Learning
Maintain module resources on the College's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), ensuring learning materials are accurate and up to date. Support blended and digital learning through the effective use of learning technologies.
General Responsibilities
Attend academic meetings, staff development activities and assessment moderation meetings as required. Work collaboratively as part of the Academic Team to support the effective delivery of university programmes. Maintain professional standards in accordance with College policies and relevant Higher Education frameworks. Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.

Teaching will primarily be delivered:

Person Specification
The successful candidate will demonstrate the knowledge, skills and experience required to perform the role effectively.
Criteria:
Master's degree or PhD in Hospitality Management, Business, Management or a closely related discipline. Relevant teaching or significant industry experience within Hospitality Management, Business or a related field. Recognised teaching qualification or a commitment to achieving one. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) or willingness to work towards it. Experience teaching in Higher Education (desirable). Knowledge of UK Higher Education quality assurance and regulatory frameworks. Experience in designing and delivering engaging teaching sessions. Experience of developing and marking assessments. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organisational and time management skills. Ability to work collaboratively within an academic team. Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, to a good standard.
