Applications are invited for appointments as an Academic Clinical Lecturer on the Specialty Training Programme in the following:
1 x ST3 or ST4 or ST5 or ST6 (ID/GIM, ID/MM/MV) at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
The Clinical Lecturer (CL) will join in the ongoing extensive seminar programme, and other educational programmes within the clinical and academic institutions. At entry to the scheme, they will be introduced to the research active PIs at LSHTM, with a view to selecting potential topics for future study. They will be expected to apply for research funding through the Academy of Medical Sciences Starter Grant small grant scheme for Clinical Lecturers, and to apply for a Wellcome Trust or MRC clinical career development fellowship during the tenure of the clinical lecturer post.
ELIGIBILITY
This post is for the trainees who have completed a relevant higher degree that is PhD or MD (original research). You must have submitted your thesis by the time of application and been awarded your higher degree by the post start date.
Applicants must not be in their final year of training.
FOR ENTRY AT ST3 GRADE (ID/MM OPTION):
For ST3 entry, applicants must hold a current NTN in Combined Infection Training and must be ST3 at post start date OR must have completed a separate standard clinical application to Combined Infection Training ST3 national recruitment and have attended an assessment/interview for Combined Infection Training ST3 in 2025 and have been found appointable.
FOR ENTRY AT ST4 LEVEL (ID/MM OPTION):
For ST4 entry, applicants must hold a current NTN in Combined Infection Training and must be ST4 at post start date
FOR ENTRY AT ST4 LEVEL (ID/GIM OPTION):
For ST4 entry, applicants must hold a current NTN in Combined Infection Training and must be ST4 at post start date OR must have completed a separate standard clinical application to Combined Infection Training ST4 national recruitment and have attended an assessment/interview for Combined Infection Training ST4 in 2025 and have been found appointable.
FOR ENTRY AT ST5 LEVEL (ANY OPTION):
For ST5 entry, applicants must hold a current NTN in Combined Infection Training and must be ST5 at post start date.
FOR ENTRY AT ST6 LEVEL (ANY OPTION):
For ST6 entry, applicants must hold a current NTN in Combined Infection Training and must be ST6 at post start date
The post is full-time and fixed term for four years. Over the four-year period of this post, 50% of time will be devoted to clinical specialist training and 50% to research. The exact timing of the clinical and research components will be agreed between the post-holder and his/her clinical and academic programme directors. The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service and is based in London at LSHTM.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT TRAINING GRADES
Please note that the grade/s advertised are the grade/s at post start date. This means that applicants must be eligible to train at the advertised grade/s at the start date of the post.
Please be aware that trainees are not permitted to repeat training for the purposes of taking up a CL post.
As an example, if a post is advertised at ST3 grade, then a current ST3 trainee who is on track to become an ST4 trainee at the post start date would NOT under any circumstances be permitted to take up the CL post at ST3 grade as this would entail repeating training that has already been completed.

Applicants who have previously relinquished a specialty training programme must provide a ‘Support for Reapplication to a Specialty Training Programme’ form.
Applicants with an NTN based inside of the region to which they are applying must provide their most recent ARCP.
This is for completion of CCT/ CESR (CP) subject to satisfactory progression.
