About this role

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach English as a Second Language to Multilingual Learners (MLs) in an ESL classroom, vocational classroom, and/or co-teach in Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) classrooms

• Co-teach and support MLs in a vocational setting with expectations to co-plan, co-assess, and co-reflect with co-teacher

• Teach students at varying English Proficiency levels, aligned to WIDA Standards

• Develop and refine in-district ESL curriculum with a student centered, relevant focus

• Administer screeners and required state assessments

• Create lessons for MLs to achieve language goals and objectives and keep families and caregivers informed about progress

• Communicate regularly with families

• Work with the Special Education department as applicable to discuss dually identified EL-SWD culturally and linguistically relevant IEP development, accommodations, and modifications, aligned to ML's language proficiency level and disability

• Actively collaborate with other members of the department and school community

• Fulfills all duties and responsibilities contained in the contract between the Southeastern Regional School District Committee and the Southeastern Regional Teachers' Association.

• Meets and instructs assigned students/classes in the location and at the times designated including push in and pull out servicing of students needing support in building literacy skills.

• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and responsive to the interests of the students.

• Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon the request of administrative personnel.

• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of behavior.

• Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

• Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, keeps accurate and timely records of student achievement, and provides reports of student grades and progress as required.

• Respects student confidentiality in all contact with any third party.

• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

• Conveys a high standard of personal deportment and attire.

• Plans and promotes integration activities.

• Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants must possess an ESL license and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or meet the criteria for licensure, which include:

• Massachusetts certification as an ESL teacher (5-12), required

• Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement, required

• Working knowledge of the Massachusetts Core-Content Frameworks and WIDA ELD Standards, required

• Sufficient proficiency with technology required to perform the essential functions of the position

• Such alternatives as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent

• Southeastern will consider applicants with relevant education, experience and qualifications who are pursuing ESL licensure.

REPORTS TO: Vice Principal of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessments EVALUATION: The Supervisor will evaluate performance of this position. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, school year, plus three days.
