SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Family Engagement Specialist's primary purpose is to provide support to the parents and school community by providing resources and training fostering collaboration between home and school in the Normandy School District Collaborative. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Foster communication and problem solving with parents, building/district administrators, community partners, attorneys and advocates, and other school districts via email, phone calls and site visits to enhance communication and understanding of the procedures and processes of the district
• Provide assistance and acts as a resource for families regarding the enrollment/transfer process.
• Serve as the district's Homeless Coordinator and Foster Care Liaison.
• Facilitate the McKinney Vento transportation services including set up and billing.
• Coordinate with entities and agencies for services provided to eligible children and youth identified by school personnel.
• Facilitate the district's Special Enrollment process to aide families living in non-traditional situations.
• Oversee and provide support for Beyond Housing's Family Engagement Liaisons in all schools.
• Coordinate Title I initiatives and ensure funds are allocated and used most effectively and in a comprehensive manner.
• Administer budgets for the McKinney Vento Act and Parent Involvement.
• Make home visits, as necessary, to ascertain areas of need and causes for truancy.
• Provide interventions to build relationships with parents/families.
• Provide support to staff, and administration.
• Develop partnerships with neighborhood organizations, businesses, and community agencies to secure resources to promote family involvement.
• Increase family awareness of and participation in district initiatives, including workshops, special events, conferences, etc.
• Remain up to date on research and trends in education, family engagement, partnerships, provide resources to stakeholders.
• Record notes, summarize meetings, and prepare necessary reports and correspondence.
• Investigate family needs with an emphasis on basic needs; investigations should include working closely with family engagement liaisons, teachers, principals, support service providers in schools, as well as parents/guardians.
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• Prior experience working with families, preferably in a school setting and families of diverse social-economic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds.
• MO Teacher Certification (any content area) Required or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in coordinating social services in a school or urban setting.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Experience with social service program management and evaluation.
• Demonstrated ability in planning small and large events
• Demonstrated ability in prioritizing, organizing, task completion and decision making.
• Knowledge of the purpose, function, and objectives of the District's Court-ordered Integration Program and other related programs.
• Knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local policies, rules and regulations.
• Ability to utilize various software programs including MS Office, Google Docs and office equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The employee continuously is interacting with the public and staff.
