JOB DESCRIPTION – CUSTODIAN TITLE: Custodian PURPOSE: Responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, and sanitation of assigned school building(s). SUPERVISOR: Building Principal in consultation with Buildings & Grounds Supervisor MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A.Equivalent of a high school diploma. B.Skill and experience in maintenance and/or custodial work. C.A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. D.Complies with the Board’s drug and alcohol policies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following essential functions represent the fundamental job duties of the employment position. If, through reasonable accommodation, a disabled person can substantially perform the essential functions of the job, such accommodation may be made. A.Maintains the cleanliness of assigned buildings and areas. B.Promptly responds to maintenance issues and emergencies in assigned buildings and areas. C.Assists in the setup and tear down of building activities and events. D.Completes minor maintenance repairs, including painting, general plumbing issues (unclogging/repairing sinks, toilets, etc.), general electrical issues (changing bulbs, ballasts, etc.), E.Safely and properly operates district equipment, machinery, HVAC and security systems, and vehicles. F.Reports any maintenance issues or major repairs to the Building Principal and Buildings & Grounds Supervisor. G.Regularly checks e-mail correspondence for directives from supervisor. H.Adequately performs all assigned duties and tasks. I.Assists with the unloading, storing, and inventory check of deliveries. J.Oversees inventory of custodial equipment and reports any needs to the Buildings & Grounds Supervisor. K.Participates in assigned professional growth activities, including health and safety trainings. L.Reports instances of suspected child abuse and/or neglect to law enforcement. M.Complies with all District policies and procedures. N.Performs other functions as assigned. O.Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings. WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee may be required to perform the essential functions of the job under the following conditions and by completing tasks of the following nature: A.Physically moving supplies and equipment. B.Operating or traveling as a passenger in a motor vehicle. C.Exposure to extreme weather conditions and temperature changes. D.Working beyond regularly-scheduled business hours and on weekends. E.Exposure to vapors from cleaning solvents and personal hygiene products. F.Exposure to risk of contact with communicable diseases, fumes, air-borne particles, and blood-borne pathogens. G.Interaction with disorderly and potentially hostile students and members of the community.
