Primary Job Function: The Reynoldsburg City Schools' Specialized Electives Teacher is responsible for planning and providing specialized, standards-based learning experiences in Music (Band/Orchestra/Choir), Art, Physical Education, Health, or STEM/Innovation Lab that foster the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of every student in alignment with Ohio's Learning Standards, OTES 2.0 performance standards, and the District's mission. Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid, active Ohio Teaching License/Certificate for the specific subject area and grade band (e.g., Multi-Age P-12 in Art, Music, Physical Education, or Health; middle/high school STEM endorsements where applicable).
• Ability to pass Federal (FBI) and State (BCI) background checks.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's Degree in Education or subject-specific field.
• Experience with Differentiated Instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and educational technology integration.

Focus for Learning & Instructional Planning (OTES 2.0)
• Aligns all daily instruction, long-range scope and sequence, and assessments directly with Ohio Learning Standards in the designated discipline (Fine Arts, PE/Health, or Science/Technology Standards).
• Develops measurable, clear, and rigorous student learning goals, establishing high expectations for all learners.
• Establishes and executes a Professional Growth Plan (PGP) driven by student performance data and self-reflection in accordance with OTES 2.0 framework cycles.
Knowledge of Students & Differentiated Instruction (OTES 2.0)
• Demonstrates an understanding of student development, cultural backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs to make content accessible to all students.
• Differentiates content, process, and product to accommodate diverse learning styles, collaborating directly with intervention specialists to fulfill Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, and English Learner (EL) accommodations.
• Uses student prior knowledge and real-world connections to make elective content relevant, engaging, and meaningful.
Lesson Delivery & Critical Thinking (OTES 2.0)
• Employs varied research-based instructional strategies, hands-on application, and modern technology to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
• Communicates learning outcomes clearly, checks for understanding throughout lessons, and adjusts instructional pacing based on real-time student feedback.
• Connects specialized elective content across disciplines and promotes inquiry-based, experiential learning (e.g., performances, digital creation, physical movement, design challenges).
Classroom & Learning Environment Management (OTES 2.0)
• Establishes a safe, organized, respectful, and inclusive classroom climate that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation.
• Establishes clear routines and manages student transitions efficiently across specialized school settings (gymnasiums, labs, studios, auditoriums).
• Maintains a trauma-informed behavior management system, promoting student self-discipline and restoring positive behavior in alignment with district policy.
Assessment of & for Student Learning (OTES 2.0)
• Uses a variety of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment strategies (e.g., rubrics, performance tasks, portfolios, physical assessments) to measure student growth and inform instruction.
• Provides timely, actionable feedback to students to support their artistic, physical, or technical growth.
• Analyzes student assessment data to evaluate instructional effectiveness and adjust teaching practices.
Specialized Program & Facility Oversight
• Manages subject-specific equipment, technology, inventory, supplies, and safety protocols (e.g., musical instruments, kilns, chemicals/tools in STEM labs, athletic equipment, digital devices).
• Coordinates, organizes, and oversees student showcases, exhibitions, concerts, performances, art displays, or fitness events that promote school and community engagement.
Professional Responsibility, Communication & Collaboration (OTES 2.0)
• Participates actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff development, and interdisciplinary initiatives with core instructional staff.
• Maintains proactive, regular, and professional communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavioral expectations, and discipline-specific events.
• Maintains accurate student records, attendance, and grades in the district's student information system in accordance with deadlines.
• Strictly adheres to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators, state ethics laws, and district policies and guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:
• Subject-specific Ohio Learning Standards and OTES 2.0 framework.
• Child development theories and trauma-informed practices.
• Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) frameworks and accommodation strategies.
• Relevant safety regulations and procedures for specialized learning spaces (e.g., kilns, labs, athletic spaces).

• Classroom and environment management in active, non-traditional learning spaces.

Working Conditions – The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
